Covenant
Transition: Some examples throughout Scripture.
Adam
Eve
Noah
Moses
David
Jesus
Transition point: A very brief overview of how God has initiated a relationship with His covenant people to reveal His glory and redeem.
Abrahamic Covenant
Four key passages that reveal different aspects of the same covenant.
Genesis 12:1-3
Emphasis: Land, seed, and blessing
Genesis 15:1-6
Fulfillment depends on God.
Genesis 17:1-8
The sign of circumcision is a constant reminder that Abraham and his decedents will not keep covenant with God by works of the flesh.
Genesis 22:15-19
God provides.
Faith is the only way to please God.
Transition: Now that we've noticed the various aspects of the same Abrahamic covenant, we must ask the question…
What does this all mean?
See Hebrews 11:8-22
Two key applications to conclude.
Conclusion: Faith in Christ is the only way to enter a covenant relationship with God.
a.
One reason this is so important is because many, many people have been mislead today to believe that faith is a work of the flesh.
maybe you've heard it said, “God has done His part, now you have to do yours by believing in Christ.”
Faith is not a work of the flesh.
It is a gift from God to be welcomed when the Holy Spirit has brought spiritual life to your heart through the hearing of the good news that Jesus Christ died for your sin, was buried, and raised from the dead.
Consider how you might respond by faith enter and into covenant with christ.
b.
Growing in the faith is the only way to enjoy that relationship.
Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.
Many of you have believed God and have been justified by faith.
However, many of us show signs of immature faith.
Be encouraged, we are in a long line of those who continued to grow in the grace and knowledge of God.
God has promised to finish what He has started, and He who began a good work in us will complete it.
It may be, that you have been attempting to mature by works of the flesh rather than by the power of the Holy Spirit.
If that be the case, then let us repent and change our minds and walk by the Spirit.
