1. Everyone likes to be appreciated.

Thank you is one of those phrases that stands alone. It’s not like other phrases in our vocabulary that we expect more than just the words for that expression. I mean you could add to it you could say “ Thank you very much” Thank you i appreciate you. Thank you for ......... washing the dishes, cleaning the church, You can always say thank you by itself and it mean the world to someone and they know why you are saying thank you, and that you are appreciated without adding another word.
For instance when someone says I’m sorry to us we don’t just automatically think that is enough. If they hurt us real bad or whatever offence warranted. I’m sorry is not enough we want them to change the behavior towards us or never ever do that thing us again. We want more than just a simple phrase.
Or lets take the words I love you. We can’t say I love you to someone and then punch them and expect them to believe the words. When we say I love you there are actions, more words, gestures, gifts, and so much more to express the feelings associated with the phrase i love you.
Thank you stands alone. You can do more with that phrase in showing someone appreciation, but honestly who doesn’t just like to be told thank you.
The bible talks about saying Thank you to God in the Book of Daniel.
Daniel 2:23 NKJV
“I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You, For You have made known to us the king’s demand.”
God gave Daniel an interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar dream after he sought help from all sorts of magicians astrologers and sorcerers Daniel 2:1-2 God gave Daniel the right dream interpretation to give him favor with the king. The king was losing sleep because of the dreams.
Daniel 2:1–2 NKJV
Now in the second year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; and his spirit was so troubled that his sleep left him. Then the king gave the command to call the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
The King wanted the Chaldeans to tell him the dream and the interpretation so he knew they had true power. The king got mad and he commanded that all wise men of Babylon be killed because they were not wise and they sough to kill Daniel and his companions.
God gives Daniel the interpretation for the king and he thanks god. Daniel thanks God for saving his life and God continues to save their lives in miraculous ways.
The furnace, the lions den.
Daniel 2:23 NKJV
“I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You, For You have made known to us the king’s demand.”
What if Daniel didn’t praise God or thank God would he continue to save him?

2. You have to work at being thankful.

What is something you used to be thankful for but now..........
The opposite of being thankful is thanklessness, unappreciative, ungrateful.............complaining facilitates these opposites.
Anything you pray for is something that your going to have to take care of.
The natural nature of human flesh if it is not disciplined or controlled by the Holy Spirit is will drift to the negative. We don't’ have to try to complain as much as we have to try to be thankful and grateful. We don’t have to try to be grouchy but we do have to try to be nice and sweet.
Lets look at the Israelites after they left Egypt how much they complained about their freedom.
Complain means to stay over night and the Israelite stayed over 40 years
Numbers 14:1–5 NKJV
So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?” So they said to one another, “Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.” Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
Complain in Hebrew means to keep over night and the Israelite complained their way into remaining 40 years.
My good example is the Post Office. My story.....God gave Bishop Kelvin Brooks a word. 2016 I was back to work.
It affords me lots of time with the Lord and the schedule used to be perfect for ministry. The money is good and about 2 years ago. Amazon contract came through.
Dog food, paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent,
I've delivered mattress, pieces of gates, you name it if you can get it on Amazon i can deliver it. Parcels that are half my size we went from delivering 50 to 60 parcels a day to over 200.
I was grateful when i got my job back in 2016 the money is good the benefits are good. It wasn’t the way it is now and now i find myself complaining, mostly about how things are done. I have been working my day off for over 2 years since Covid.
Another example I can give you is getting my step kids back in my life. Having my first child. Oh how sweet they were. How much I loved them. How cute they were. Oh i cried for them prayed for them to come home. I prayed for over 10 years for them to come home. Liora missed them and never let me forget them and years later one by one as i rescued the oldest they all came home. Somewhat to follow the oldest but because they really did connect with me as being their mom. They are all doing very well in school. But sometimes the personality conflicts are way more than i ever imagined or the things i have to do or the way i have to correct them. It is not what i was thankful for in the beginning. In the beginning i just wanted my babies home. IThe youngest of my step kids was my first baby and then i had my baby Liora. Oh how i grieved her and she and i have the most issues getting along at times. And sometimes her getting along with people in general. Shes not a people person. n the beginning they were all excited to live together again. One of them is more helpful than the others, then one surprises you. One of them goes all out on gifts but the truth is all my girls don’t get along very well and they don’t get along with their brother. I know they love each other but sometimes I find myself complaining about the very thing i prayed for.
I have so many blessings in my life like these, don’t you. That we take for granted and we forget that we were so grateful for them before.
No matter how hard we have it, There is always someone who has it harder than we do. And those people probably have a smile on there face.
Numbers 14:20–28 NKJV
Then the Lord said: “I have pardoned, according to your word; but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord—because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it. But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it. Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwell in the valley; tomorrow turn and move out into the wilderness by the Way of the Red Sea.” And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “How long shall I bear with this evil congregation who complain against Me? I have heard the complaints which the children of Israel make against Me. Say to them, ‘As I live,’ says the Lord, ‘just as you have spoken in My hearing, so I will do to you:
73 times the bible says to give thanks.....to God.
What do you complain about that you were excited about before it became common place?
We take for granted that the water turns on, the lights come on, we can easily go to the grocery store. Some countries have to walk miles to get water and it’s not even clean water, they still live in houses with lamps, they have to kill or grow their food.
Significant other, Job, restored relationship, vehicle, pet, family, church family, etc. I’m sure as soon as i asked that question the thing that God wants you to be more grateful for popped in your mind.
Sometimes we take our family for granted and we don’t maintain those relationships or lean on them knowing they will always help us.
How did you become ungrateful for these things that popped in your mind. When did you start complaining?
We need to be telling God thank you all the time for everything. Give thanks in all things
Ephesians 5:20 NKJV
giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1 Thessalonians 5:17–18 NKJV
pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Colossians 3:17 NKJV
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Lets go back to Daniel thanking God a minuet and pull one more thing out of this scripture.
Daniel 2:23 NKJV
“I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You, For You have made known to us the king’s demand.”
Daniel says i thank you and praise you
Thank means -express gratitude-readiness to show appreciation for....... Hebrew-praise give thanks
Greek-to praise celebrate, iv
Praise means- express warm approval or admiration of.
Hebrew-praise adore
Greek-thank and praise
Praise and worship-do we thank God in worship?
Do we honor him?

3. We should be Thankful for everything continually.

We have read scriptures that say pray without ceasing.
The bible says thank God without ceasing.
2 Timothy 1:3 NKJV
I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day,
1 Thessalonians 2:13 NKJV
For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.
Timothy thanks God for others continually
Thessalonians thanks God for the word of truth continually
Romans 8:28 NKJV
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

4. Praise Him Thank Him the bad times.

Hebrews 13:15 NKJV
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
The Book of Psalms has within it many songs penned by King David. There are psalms of praise and adoration toward God; psalms of thanksgiving for things God has done; but there are also psalms of that deal with pain, suffering, repentance, and pleas for forgiveness. When one understands the life of David and the hardships and trials he endured, both physical and mental, one can better understand the songs David writes and the emotions so evidently displayed.
David wrote the Psalms and he wrote things like this while he was going through lots of trials........he was being hunted to be killed by Solomon, he killed a man after he slept with his wife, His child died, one of Davids sons ammon rapes his sister Tamar and Absalom kills Ammon and then tries to take David’s throne. After Absalom death Adonijah tries to take the throne. Then in his old age he finally has Solomon to take his throne as he is on his death bead.
Psalm 34 NKJV
A Psalm of David When He Pretended Madness Before Abimelech, Who Drove Him Away, and He Departed. I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing. Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. He guards all his bones; Not one of them is broken. Evil shall slay the wicked, And those who hate the righteous shall be condemned. The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.
David got through the troubles of life by giving God praise and thanks. How will you get through life?
