Hope: Prophet’s Candle

Isaiah 7:14 ESV
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
What is Prophecy?
Prophecy is a prediction. Foretelling what is to come.
What is a Prophet?
According to GotQuestions.org a prophet is a person who speaks God’s truth to others.
Isaiah was a prophet who lived 700 years before the birth of Christ.
God sent him a vision of the Lord Savior Jesus Christ being born.
Why is this important?
Isaiah waited in hope for the Messiah’s arrival.
What is Hope?
Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to come.
People who claim they had a vision back in Scripture times, people normally listened.
People who claim they had a vision now people will state the obvious “I’ll believe it when I see it.”
So let’s talk about Joseph
Matthew 1:18–19 ESV
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.
This is Joseph, he had no idea what was going on. However did you notice he still put Mary above himself. He didnt want to tarnish her image right.
Matthew 1:19 ESV
And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.
So what was he going to do Divorce her quietly. They did have the show Maury, he didnt exploit her. But what happens. Well let’s look further down
Matthew 1:20–23 ESV
But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
An Angel of the Lord appeared and said Do NOT FEAR.
DO NOT FEAR!
This is all to take place and fulfill the Lord’s plan.
He had hope in the Lord that he and his wife will be taken care of.
Matthew 1:24–25 ESV
When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
So I like how Scripture gives you the most important part that you need to read right? Because I look at this scripture and it says When Jesus woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him. Now I’m sure Joseph woke up and said “What Just Happened?”
Myself, I wake up and hope to God, I dont step on a lego
Now let’s look at Mary
Luke 1:26–33 ESV
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
Did you notice, the angel tells Mary the same thing DO NOT be afraid.
Luke 1:34 ESV
And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”
Mary didn’t believe what the angel was saying to her. She asks How will this be?
Luke 1:35–38 ESV
And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
The Angel gives Mary Hope with one sentence.
Luke 1:37 ESV
For nothing will be impossible with God.”
NOTHING WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD
Too often we forget that. But this today is a good reminder. Mary was a female knowing that when people found she would be pregnant, that people will whisper. The angel says nothing will be impossible with God.
We have Victory in Jesus when He is on our side.
I am going to end with this scripture, because the holidays wears us down. To often we are worried about presents for the kids, grandkids, or each other. Or maybe we worry about the not burning the Ham, or will my mother like my cooking. But this holiday season take this verse with you
Isaiah 40:31 ESV
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
