Last week I was in the Philippians 2 and 4. Well the 3rd Chapter of Philippians is a great Word.
If you have a Bible that labels sections, yours probably says “The Goal of Life.”
That’s kind of an important thing to study.

Rejoice

Philippians 3:1 NASB95
1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things again is no trouble to me, and it is a safeguard for you.
That is a constant theme of the letter Paul wrote to the church of Philippi.
Rejoice! Cheer, celebrate. Hail!.

Down to business

Philippians 3:2 NASB95
2 Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision;
Three ways to describe the same group.
Jewish Christians that put their faith in their own work.
Trying to mix the Law with Grace.
False circumcision - Katatome - Mutilation of the flesh.
Philippians 3:3 NASB95
3 for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh,
True circumcision - Paritome
All Him, none of us.
Paul talks about his pride.
Philippians 3:4 NASB95
4 although I myself might have confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I far more:
Circumcised on the 8th day.
Nation of Isreal - not converted to Judaism
Tribe of Benjamin - Not a lost tribe.
Hebrew of Hebrews - Both parents were Jewish.
Pharisee - followed the law
Persecutor of the Church - zealous for the faith.
Righteousness and blameless.
Philippians 3:7 NASB95
7 But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
How good of a Christian are you?
Never drank, No sex before marriage, always honored my mother and father, feed the poor, shelter the needy, never taken the Lord’s name in vein, .....never done this, or alway do that.......
If you think for one second that any of those things have purchased for you a seat closer to Christ, then you do not understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 64:6 NASB95
6 For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
Paul says it is all rubbish that I may gain Christ.
Buying a mansion for the price of what you flush down the toilet.
Philippians 3:9 NASB95
9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,

The goal of every follower of Christ

Philippians 3:10 NASB95
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;
People infatuated with celebrities, so they do everything they can to be just like them.
We were in Vegas a couple years ago and saw several Elvis impersonators.
Philippians 3:11 NASB95
11 in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Look at What Paul says next.
Philippians 3:12 NASB95
12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
If you were ask Paul how to be saved. He would present the Gospel of Christ.
You are a sinner and separated from God.
God sent Jesus, His Son, who through His perfect sinless life, His sacrificial death on the Cross, and His resurrection from the dead, provided a way to be reconciled with God and receive eternal life.
If you believe that, it is because God has provided you with faith enough to believe it and you will be saved.
You have received the promise of salvation, but what is it that you wish to be saved from?
Punishment from sin.
You are still alive, so you haven’t received that salvation.
Philippians 3:13–14 NASB95
13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
The Georgia Bulldogs (#1) beat Charleston Southern this past week 56-7
On Monday, they will not spend one minute celebrating that game. They will immediately start preparing for their next game. Georgia Tech.
The week after they will play Alabama. They will not even think about Bama, until after Ga Tech.
Their ultimate goal, is to win the national championship, but their focus is the next game.

Walk in that attitude

If you have a different attitude, God will reveal that to you.
Paul says use me as an example.....

Warning

Philippians 3:18–19 NASB95
18 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.

Our Citizenship

If you have every left the US, you get an appreciation for being a US Citizenship. Weather a mission trip to a 3rd world jungle, military deployment, or vacation to the most beautiful places on earth. You know you don’t belong there. That ain’t home.
An you cling a little tighter to you passport, (ID Card).
That is your ticket home, your promise that you will be allowed in.
Philippians 3:20 NASB95
20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;
