To begin with brothers and sisters, Christian Friends, well wishers and saints of God as we glint ,gleam and gaze at this glorious text and study Dr. Luke’s catechetical instructions he give us a detailed account of the Gospel message. In Luke’s Catechetical Instructions we find a whole lot of veracity, validity, and verifiable facts, proofs, and truths.
To begin with brothers and sisters, Christian Friends, well wishers and saints of God as we glint ,gleam and gaze at this glorious text and study Dr. Luke’s catechetical instructions he give us a detailed account of the Gospel message. In Luke’s Catechetical Instructions we find a whole lot of veracity, validity, and verifiable facts, proofs, and truths.
This is perhaps one of the longest stories concerning the birth of Jesus and the birth of John the Baptist in all of the bible.

The writer of this sacred text is Dr. Luke and he is called the beloved Physician because he wrote from the medical prospective. He is also noted for calling Jesus the Son of Man. The Gospel of Luke is really a two volume book with the book of Luke then the book of Acts. And Dr.Luke is addressing a prominent Christian character by the name of Theophilus. The researchers suggest that there are several account concerning Theophilus. Some say he’s not a real person but an institution. And secondly Theophilus was a REAL PERSON WHO WAS AFRAID TO LET PEOPLE KNOW WHO HE WAS BECAUSE OF THE POLITICAL CLIMATE CONCERNING CHRISTIANS.

And so Luke starts off by telling the story of Zacharias the priest and his barren wife First Lady Elizabeth. Both of them were good godly people but Elizabeth couldn’t have a baby. And now time has gone by and the hopes of having a baby are all but gone. And so, one day while Zacharias was performing his priestly duties and verse 11 says an angel of the Lord showed up. Zacharias was troubled and afraid.

John will bring you and Elizabeth great happiness and joy and gladness. In fact a lot of people will rejoice over John’s birth. John will be great in the sight of God and man. John will be righteous, and filled with the Holy Ghost. John ain’t gon cut up and carry on , he ain’t gon drink and get drunk, he ain’t gon run women, he ain’t gon lie steal and cheat . And John’s lifestyle is going to cause many of the Children of Israel to be converted to their God. Because conversion is a change of Lifestyle. The scriptures says John will be powerful like Elijah with the ability to change and turns hearts towards God. and Most importantly John will be the forerunner that will prepare the way for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
John will bring you and Elizabeth great happiness and joy and gladness. In fact a lot of people will rejoice over John’s birth. John will be great in the sight of God and man. John will be righteous, and filled with the Holy Ghost. John ain’t gon cut up and carry on , he ain’t gon drink and get drunk, he ain’t gon run women, he ain’t gon lie steal and cheat . And as result of disbelief Verse 21 says that the people waited so long for Zacharias they thought that something had happened to him. And when he came out and couldn’t talk they knew that something had happened to him. Zacharias couldn’t talk!!! because of his faithlessness. Church obedience of better than sacrifice.But this obedience is inside of Zacharias’ heart. Zacharias felt like that in his heart and the Angel Gabriel knew it. Before I go to the next portions of scripture, I want to say for the record you got to believe what you teach and preach to be able to reach God’s people. She got pregnant and said in verse 25 the Lord hath dealt with me with favor. And Nobody will be talking about me anymore. I know about you but it doesn’t feel good when you’re the bunt of everybody’s shame, everybody’s joke and everybody’s pity.

Dr. Luke makes a pivotal shift and starts to talk about Mary the Mother of God. In verse 26-35 the scripture depicts Mary as the Madonna with the Immaculate conception of Jesus of which we will deal with in another message. Mary is encountering a strangeeeee divine phenomenon and the Angel Gabriel tells her about her cousin, First Lady Elizabeth and how Elizabeth and Zacharias are going to have a baby boy in their old age.

Now it’s time for First Lady Elizabeth to have the baby. Elizabeth haves the baby and her neighbors and cousins and everybody are excited about this miracle baby. They are all rejoicing with Elizabeth meanwhile Zacharias can’t talk. He’s happy but no sound is coming out of his mouth. I imagine Zacharias saying “If I can’t say one word I’d just wave my hand.” The bible says in verse 59 that after the 8th day they came to circumcise the child and name him Zacharias Jr. But Elizabeth said No No No don’t get it twisted, don’t get a head of yourself, This baby is going to be named John!!! But the people began to say this, that and the third about nobody isn’t named John in your whole family, and Elizabeth you aren’t supposed to name that child anyway. 72 He said he would give mercy to our ancestors
and that he would remember his holy promise. 73 God promised Abraham, our father,
74 that he would save us from the power of our enemies
so we could serve him without fear,
75 being holy and good before God as long as we live.
76 “Now you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High God.
You will go before the Lord to prepare his way.
77 You will make his people know that they will be saved
by having their sins forgiven.
78 With the loving mercy of our God,
a new day from heaven will dawn upon us.
79 It will shine on those who live in darkness,
in the shadow of death.
80 And so the child grew up and became strong in spirit. John lived in the desert until the time when he came out to preach to Israel.
I’m so glad for John because I want to stand on the wall and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ just like John. I’ve got to stand and tell the world about the Savior named Jesus. Oh Lord.
