1 Kings 19:19-21
It’s Your Turn
Introduction
IT’S YOUR TURN can be words a person wants to hear, or words a person does not want to hear.
It all depends on MY TURN FOR WHAT!
The purpose of the message today is to encourage each of us to have open ears and hearts and ready spirits to know what purpose God has for our lives and be ready to respond to God’s call for our lives.
The reality is, IT’S YOUR TURN right now.
“19 Elijah left and found Elisha ploughing with a team of oxen; there were eleven teams ahead of him, and he was ploughing with the last one.
Elijah took off his cloak and put it on Elisha.
20 Elisha then left his oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and then I will go with you.”
Elijah answered, “All right, go back.
I’m not stopping you!” 21 Then Elisha went to his team of oxen, killed them, and cooked the meat, using the yoke as fuel for the fire.
He gave the meat to the people, and they ate it.
Then he went and followed Elijah as his helper.”

Elisha’s Call (19)
God using Elijah in the call of Elisha was God’s way of reminding Elijah of his purpose.
“Depressed persons cannot usually be talked out of their gloom.
What helps sometimes is a sense of purpose, and that is exactly what God provides Elijah with his...commission [to Elisha].”

“Observe how here, as everywhere, God took the initiative.
Elisha was not seeking Him, but the Lord through Elijah sought him out.”
Elisha was not found in his study but in the field, not with a book in his hand, but at the plow.
...he was actively engaged when the call came to him, as was each of the others alluded to above.
The ministry of Christ is no place for idlers and drones, who wish to spend much of their time driving around in fancy cars or being entertained in the homes of their members and friends.
No, it is a vocation which calls for constant self-sacrifice, and which demands tireless devotion to the performance of duty.
God calls Elisha from the back of the line-12th man…(illustr.
Being at the end...but God blesses him; and if there’s an “about face” and now the last is first!)
God doesn’t always call the most obvious person.
God doesn’t always call the most qualified person.
God doesn’t always call the person from the most likely place.

The eating of the animals was a “farewell feast” not a “sacrificial feast”.
“what have I done to thee?—that is, Go, but keep in mind the solemn ceremony I have just performed on thee.
It is not I, but God, who calls thee.
Do not allow any earthly affection to detain you from obeying His call.”
