Parents often make promises to their children according to their behavior. If the child is good, in most cases the parent promises the child a good reward, however if the child behaves badly, then the parent may not promise them nothing or a bad reward.
We find in 2 Chronicles 7:11- 21 that God as a father doing the same thing to His children the king and the nation Israel.
King Solomon had just completed building a house for God. His father David wanted to build an house for God but God would not permit him. Instead God instructed David that his son Solomon would build it. (1 Chronicle 17:11,12)
