What is True worship?
What is True worship?
Have you ever had a song that made you change your mind on something? I had something that really changed my mind one day. See when I was in college my mom got cancer, I was devistated. I actually spiralled a bit, what did not help either was that I did not have a lot of friends at the time either. As I was battling through that I had to keep studying and working on my degree, even though they let me extend my assignments it was better I keep on track as to not spiral more. When I study I put on my tunes, but at that time I kept my tunes on 24/7 and just muted it becuase spotify would give me new music when I unmuted it, never the less I stumbled on a song that really made me think. It was Dust by Kings Kalelscope and It helped me realized that the only true thing I got is Jesus and that all I need. I started to sing it in praise every momment I got. I started sing it in the car, on my walks, while I vaccummed, singing louder then the vaccum. The song only inspired me to have a greater faith. to be more in the deep end of my faith, trusting Jesus in even the hardest thing. Worshiping God can lead us to experience his love evenmore.
What is worship?
When we sing worship to Jesus we often call that worship. Today we see worship as being this time where we gather to sing songs about how glorious God is, or how much we need him, or how he is with us.
I call it the Worship triangle
1. I worship God’s glory
2. I worship God with me
3. I worship God beucase I need him
but this idea actually extends past the idea that worship is just singing songs. Worship actually engulfs everything that we do to acknowledge that Jesus is king over our life.
Worship can be your devotionals
Reading scripture out loud
Drawing imagery of Jesus
Poetry
Giving financially
Dance
there is a long list and if you want to inqure more let me know
However I want to actualyl talk about music in worship.
When we worship through song its this powerful experience where we get to be involved with the community of believers and sing songs directed to Jesus. we acomplish a few things here, first we praise God for that trinagle I talked about. The seconad being that we sing with the community of believers.
Worship inspires faith through these two ways, our own singing and action and the world around us also resonating with Jesus as we meet together.
Music makes us want to worship
when you sing in the car with your friends you get into it right? playing the steering wheel bongo, the speed of the car sometimes goes a little bit faster.
Music invokes this passion in us.
Music inspires us to do better or be better, and that is just secualr music like taylor swift. however when we sing Worship it invokes this same passion in us as well.
If you have been to a concert the way that the music moves through us speaks volume. this is just the invitation to worship. When the music is blasting, or the drums are beating, the vocalist begins, they invite you to acknowledge God through worship.
Accepting the invite to worship
So,
Sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
he is to be feared above all gods.
Take the worship leaders as the invters and you as the participatant as you embrace the song that leads to worshiping the lord in a new way.
Sing to the lord, accept the invitation
Worship inspires faith
See worship is this event that grows our faith. Once we accept that invitation into join the rest of those praising the lord we begin to transform our faith.
Our faith is developed a few differnt ways
Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;
let the sea resound, and all that is in it.
We find peace in the worship, there is something crashing around us that we just need to rest in the fact that Jesus is king over this world, over all of creation.
or maybe we just have to rejoice in the Lord and who he is,
Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them;
let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.
Maybe even acknowledge that God is working wonders in your life right now as you sing.
Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”
The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved;
he will judge the peoples with equity.
God is good and we acknowledge all he is doing, all he has done and all he will do when we lift our voices up to him.
Faith leads to greater worship
So, here is my challange for you. I invite you to take up a posture for God. I invite you to praise God in a new way.
Often for myself when I find my faith and the music intwining I will lift my hand or hands.
When ever its worship music you guys can probably notice I bounce. I cannot sit still. God calls us to move. 2 Sam 6:14-16
Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.
Dance with Joy for the Lord is among you. just as the Ark had entered the city, the Holy Spirit resides in you and so it’s fitting to dance.
Maybe even you feel so motivated to fall down on your knees before Jesus. This is such a biblical method that even in Romans 14: 11 we see that every knee wil bow.
Fully Worship The Lord now.
We are going to shift into something differnet today.
We are going to worship the Lord now, I invite you all to stand up and will will sing to the Lord. Do not be anxoius on what is happening around you but I encourage you to live out this worship through song. Raise your hand if you feel you should worship in that regard, bow to your knees, jive out and live out worship as we sing here.
