Introduction
Introduction
“Now, therefore, fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
“If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
The book of Joshua is not about Joshua; it is about God.
Particularly, the faithfulness of God.
God made a promise to Abraham Gen 12:1 “Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you;”
This was approx. 700 years in the making. But God, still came through!
We are being encouraged to hold on to a FAITHFUL GOD! The power in holding on comes from what you are holding on to!
Promise keeper, a truth-teller, He “cannot lie” - I can take
God at His word.
Chap. 23
Chap. 23
[ref. bible]
This chapter details Joshua’s “farewell address”
Vs. 3 Joshua says “because of you”
God is willing to act on my behalf, because of who He is. Faithfulness!
Chap. 24
Chap. 24
[ref. bible]
This chapter they are gathered at Shechem and he has the attention of the Leaders and what seems to be the people as well. But there is special emphasis placed on the leaders.
Notice vs. 2 “and they served other Gods”
Notice the work God did in their lives vs. 3-13 [notice the “I’s” in the text]
Notice how God led them to their ‘present’ vs. 13 “I gave you a land” Faithfulness!

Jos 24:14-15 ““Now, therefore, fear the Lord and serve [expend considerable energy and intensity in a task or function] Him in sincerity [pure motives] and truth [reliable]; and put away [put far away from you] the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. “If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose [there is no neutral ground] for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.””
