Introduction

Greetings…
In Psalm 49:8 we read concerning the soul of man…
Psalm 49:8 (NKJV)
8 For the redemption of their souls is costly…
Thankfully for you and I the soul of mankind is considered precious to our God but there are a number of things found to be precious to God.
Today, we are going to examine four of those.
So, with that in mind let’s examine our lesson for this evening.

Wisdom Is Precious To God

Better Than Silver & More Profitable Than God.

The great king Solomon, in Proverbs 3.13-15 writes…
Proverbs 3:13–15 ESV
13 Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14 for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15 She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
Proverbs 8:10–11 ESV
10 Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, 11 for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.

Summary

Wisdom is better than silver, more profitable than gold, and more precious than jewels because it is wisdom that actually brings happiness or blessings to one in this life.
Those other things are material and thus fleeting but biblical knowledge is happiness or blessings for eternity.
Precious in the eyes of God is also a…

Good Name

Better Than Precious Ointment.

Again we read from the wisest earthly person, king Solomon write…
Ecclesiastes 7:1 ESV
1 A good name is better than precious ointment, and the day of death than the day of birth.
Precious ointments were a costly luxury in ancient Israel and were typically held for the king and those of his house.
We read in Esther 2.12 that Esther had to be bathed in “precious ointments” for a full year before she could see the king.
We read of Jesus being anointed with “very expensive ointment” and the apostles being made because it could have been sold for a great deal of money (Matthew 26:7-9).

Summary

In God’s eyes a person’s good name is far better than the most expensive ointment.
Considering Christians are to influence people by our conduct (Matthew 5:16), we too should consider a good name more precious than riches.
We also find within the scriptures that precious in the eyes of God is the…

Blood Of Christ

The Imperishable.

The apostle Peter, writing to a people ravaged with persecution, reminds them of the value in being holy because they were ransomed from this sinful world.
What ransomed them, notice the words of Peter inspired by God.
1 Peter 1:16–19 ESV
16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 17 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

Summary

The blood of Christ is precious in the sight of God because it is not based on the perishable of this world but the imperishable of the divine.
Only through the sacrifice of “divine blood” could that ransom be paid.
Lastly, We find that which is precious in the sight of God is the…

Death Of A Saint

The Soul Will Not Be Abandoned.

Thankfully for you and I our Creator, who created us with body, soul, and spirit finds our soul precious.
Psalm 116:15 ESV
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
This is important because it means he will not leave our soul in the grave.
Psalm 49:15 ESV
15 But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah
Psalm 16:10 ESV
10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.
Hosea 13:14 ESV
14 I shall ransom them from the power of Sheol; I shall redeem them from Death. O Death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion is hidden from my eyes.

Summary

Thanks be to God that our soul is found precious in his sight and that he will not abandon us in the grave.

Conclusion

There are many other things found to be “Precious In The Eyes Of God.”
The word of the Lord is precious (1 Samuel 3:1) and faithfulness is precious (2 Peter 1:1) to name a few.
Let us “hold fast” those things God finds precious and let us let go of what he does not.
Invitation
Isaiah 59:1–2 ESV
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Philippians 2:6–7 ESV
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Acts 17:30 ESV
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
Matthew 10:32 NKJV
32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
2 Thessalonians 1:8 ESV
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Romans 6:3–5 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
1 John 1:7 ESV
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
