CIT: We are called to have faith in the only one who redeems the fallen and brings perfect peace.

The power of Jesus
The lack of faith in the disciples
The knowledge of the demons
The answer to the disciples question

The power ofJesus

Jesus was at peace in the midst of chaos
Because he had faith in God the Father to protect him
If Jesus had peace in the midst of chaos because of his faith, then we too should also have peace in the midst of chaos because of our faith.
Jesus brought peace to the chaos
Colossians 1:20
The way that Jesus brought peace to the chaotic water was by a command, the way that Jesus has brought peace to our chaotic hearts was by a command John 19:30

The lack of faith in the disciples

The disciples were filled with fear, not faith
Matthew 6:23-34
Jesus had just taught them to not be anxious or filled with fear because God will provide for and protect you
“He does not [get onto] them for disturbing him with their prayers but for disturbing themselves with their fears.” - Matthew Henry
Faith in Christ alone is central to our being
1 John 4:18
our faith in Christ should cast our our fears because Christ’s love fills us through faith
Psalm 46
When we have faith in Christ alone we rightly recognize that he is the one who protects us
Even in witnessing a miracle, the disciples still do not understand or believe who Jesus truly is
Matt. 8:27
Matthew begins to answer this question by first contrasting the disciples unbelief with the demons knowledge

The knowledge of the demons

The demons know who Jesus truly is
James 2:19
The demons do not believe in Jesus as Lord
While they may understand and believe that God is One and that Jesus is the Son of God they do not believe in him for life under his Lordship but are still in open rebellion against him.
Belief is not mental ascent, it is heart change
Ephesians 2:4-6, 8-9
If our hearts have not been changed, and we are relying on our mental knowledge, then (even though it may sound harsh it is true) we are in no better position than the demons. In fact we are aligned with the demons in death if our hearts have not been changed in faith.
