INTRO
Good morning, friends, we’re so glad you have tuned in to hear God’s Precepts and Promises this morning brought to you by the Rome Church of Christ.
We’re examining Christianity systematically--taking all the Bible has to say on a subject and putting it together as best as possible. Letting the Bible speak
We have discussed some of the Types of Christ in the OT. We want to now look at some instances where Christ appears in the OT.
Discussion

Background

John says he was at the beginning (Jn 1:1-3)
Jesus claimed to exist prior to his birth (Jn 8:57-58)
John claimed Jesus existed before he did (Jn 1:15, 30)
Micah prophesied of His birth and mentioned his eternal nature (Mic 5:2)

Examples of Jesus’ Pre-existence in the OT

In the plains of Mamre (Gen 18)

Q: What is the role of an angel?
A: Angels are primarily messengers.

The Angel of the LORD

Ryrie: “Clearly the Angel of Yahweh is a self-manifestation of Yahweh, for He speaks as God, identifies Himself with God, and claims to exercise the prerogatives of God”

Hagar (Gen 16:7-14)

Abraham and Isaac (Gen 22:11, 14-15)

Jacob (Gen 48:15-16)

The Burning Bush (Ex 3:2)

Pillar of Cloud and Fire (Ex 14:19; 23:20-23; 32:34; 33:11)

Gideon (Judg 6:11-24)

Samson’s parents (Judg 13:3-23)

Vision of Isaiah

Isaiah 6;

Jn 12:42

Significance of Jesus’ Preexistence

If he did not exist prior to his birth, then he is not God, because God is eternal (Ps 90:2)

If he did not exist prior to his birth, then he is a liar, because he claimed such to be the case (Jn 8:58)
If Jesus lied about his eternality, then He is not God (Tit 1:2)
CONCLUSION
Sum: Next week we will continue thinking about types of Christ in the OT
Next Week: Continue thinking about the doctrine of Christ
Until then, We encourage you to hear His precepts and trust His promises
