“The Messenger” is exemplified only in Jesus, but all other faithful messengers speak of his refining and purifying through repentance and forgiveness in salvation.

Just like rusting metal or used and soiled clothing, we are continually affected by the world around us, and we may succumb to the corruption or stain of our temptations.
