Intro
Intro
picking up where we left off a while ago
kind of a recap episode
the real pursuit of the end begins
Priests, magic bread, and big swords
Priests, magic bread, and big swords
David can’t tell the priest why he is there out of fear
he and those who were with him have been on the run and are hungry
we will find out later that the priest inquired of God himself whether this was lawful and God approved
the bread is meant only for those who enter the presence of God
David is meant to be the one closest to and representing God among the people even though he is in hiding
the servant of Saul is present and obviously flees to tell Saul as they are there and the jig is up
the only weapon present is the sword of Goliath, as though it were destined to return to his hands
King on the Run
King on the Run
David and those with him run to Gath, crossing out of Israel and into one of the five city states of the Philistines
being near the enemy and being hard to mistake carrying Goliath’s sword, David fakes being insane to survive
runs again to a fort in Moab, a group who are distantly related to David even though they are enemies of Israel
many other outcasts and the like gather to David and he amasses a bit of a following that basically become a small army
Dying for Bread
Dying for Bread
Saul eventually hears of what happened at Nob
the priest is summoned and says he knew nothing of Saul’s intent to kill David and paint him as the enemy
As a great work of irony, Saul orders every living thing at Nob killed
Abiathar escapes to David and stays with him
Application
Application
Saul has obviously lost it, he is full tilt towards ending David
next week we will see him pursue David several times
Just a few more lessons left of this book
David even in his exile fulfills where Saul fails- looking after the abandoned, keeping peace, overcoming the enemy
All the while David seeks to do good and can’t help but help people, even though his situation doesn’t seem like one where he has any place to help anyone but himself
God does not always wait for you to be ready, he is always working
are you?
