Good afternoon. On behalf of all the family, thank you for being here today to celebrate the beautiful life and legacy of Norma Mohn. A women who lived life to the fullest in service to others. A kind women who leaves us with a lasting legacy of love. Today as we remember and we grieve, but we do not grieve without hope we are reminded by the Psalmist that

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

Norma now rests in the Almighty's shadow, she rest in Christ’s presence, I am reminded of this picture of heaven that is painted in revelation....
Rev

Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ u or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”

Norma Ruth Mohn of Sharpsville, Indiana passed away peacefully at home with her family at bedside on November 20, 2021 following her battle with pancreatic cancer, she was 88.
Norma was born March 23, 1933 to the late Harry and Ethel Harvey Rutledge. She was the baby of the family, the youngest of seven children. She grew up in Mount Summit, Indiana where her father was a farmer and lay pastor. She always thought fondly of life on the farm, she would often tell about how much she enjoy that all the local farmers would help out each other at harvest time by coming to each others farmers to help and she loved getting to help with the big meal her mother would make for all those who came to help out.
I was also told that on the farm all the kids had specific chores, Normas was originally to take care of the chickens…until they realized she was allergic.
Norma loved her big family. She was extra blessed the last few years to spend extra time with her sister.... Joann. I talked with the funeral home and they will add that. Those two spent a lot of time together in the past 3 years and enjoyed winters for many years in North Carolina together. They were always loved playing cards, dominos, or working puzzles together.
Norma graduated from Pendleton High school.
It was right after high school that Norma would marry her first husband, Gene DeLawter. While eventually there journy together as a married couple would not last, they spent 18 years together and were blessed by their two children Rick and Debbie.
Norma was an incredible mom who was so proud of her kids. She would do anything for them. Whether it was being a taxi for them all their events, even when it was a far distance. Or sewing dresses for Debbie for dances. Or taking Rick fishing. She was always ready to help them and never complained about doing things for them.
Even as her kids became adults she would always been there and ready to help. When Debbie was in nursing school her furnace went out and Norma quickly got her a new one. She was an incredible generous person. She lived openhandedly with her time, talents, and treasure.
For 39 years she worked for the State of Indiana. It was their she met her husband Dick. Shortly after they were married they moved to North Carolina where she would live for the next 24 years before she moved back to Indiana with Debbie and Chris (her favorite son-in-law) although she even told me she came back kicking and screaming.
She Dick were together for nine wonderful years, until Dick passed away. While in North Carolina she was incredibly active at Seaside United Methodist Church. She volunteered faithfully at the food pantry and helped with the county fair fund raiser. She also would help at “sheltered Treasures” which was a secondhand store that was connected to her church and help women who had experienced domestic violence. A theme of her life seemed to be service, she loved to serve and love on others.
Norma had few hobbies she enjoyed. She was a fantastic artist and really enjoyed painting. She loved to cook and bake. She is most famous for her pies, spiced pecans, and her world famous carmels who she loved sharing people. In fact when she used to give them out at christmas to friends, family, and even the garbage men…who were quiet sad when they knew she was moving.
She also loved to crochet and sew. She was always working on an afgan for someone. She also loved to decorate, Debbie said this week she misses her help especially during this Christmas holiday.
She loved to fish and she passed on that passion especially to her son Rick and grandson Jason.
She had a great sense of humor, even to the very end. I am told as she was dealing with alot of pain, she had been saying how she hated it and wished things would go quicker and said dogs have it been because they get the good stuff. When she was reminded she isnt a dog, she said she could start barking.
She was thrifty and frugal for herself.
While she came kicking and screaming, I know she was grateful to live here final years up here with Chris and Deb and be so closes to family.
One of her favorite titles was that of grandma and great-grandma. she would do anything for those kids.
She was proud to have 5 grandkids, Jason, Nathan, Randy, Daisha, and Mckenzie.
Mckenzie has claimed the title of being her favorite, is now going to come and share a bit about her beloved grandma.
Part of today is allowing ourselves to be honest with God about grief, frustrations, and even anger. the really great news is that He is not afraid of the feelings we have. In fact in the midst of our pain He gives us the gift of His presence and understanding.
PSalm

18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted

and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Matthew

4 Blessed are those who mourn,

for they will be comforted.

I believe that with my whole heart. That will grief will be a journey. One we wouldn't choose and will not like, we can take comfort in the fact that you don’t face it alone.
Philippians

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I believe that is one of the greatest desires God has for you today, that you would find peace. That you would find peace in this world and that you would be with Him in the next.
But today we do not want to grieve without hope as those who don;’t know Jesus do., as Paul told the thessolians…

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

Romans

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God’s love will always be chasing us and there for us. Every single one of us.
John

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4

Again this is for all people. This is a generous love. And its a love that casts out all fear.
Psalm 27:1 says..

The LORD is my light and my salvation—

whom shall I fear?

The LORD is the stronghold of my life—

of whom shall I be afraid?

John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Again Jesus came into this world to save you and me, So we could have a better present and an ultimate future with Him, like Deanna.
John

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

God desires that all his children would come home....that they would trust in him
John

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

No matter who you are and where you come from you are invited to experience this new life in Jesus.
Today I take comfort and hav joy thinking about how Norma is in heaven…she has been made new…free of pain, suffering, and worry.
She is whole. As we close today I want to read this famous prayer that was a favorite of hers and then lead us in a finally prayer as well.

A Psalm of David.

1 The LORD is my shepherd,

I shall not want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside cquiet waters.

3 He restores my soul;

He guides me in the cpaths of righteousness

For His name’s sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I fear no evil, for You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

You have anointed my head with oil;

My cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,

And I will bdwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Norma mohn, we’ll done good and faithful servant.
