Our Reality
Our Reality
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Because we have been declared righteous by God on the merits of Christ, we have peace with God.
And because of this, something else is true
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
We are united with Christ.
And as people who are in Christ are to do something
Our Responsibility
Our Responsibility
The back of our bulletin references communion as seeing the Gospel. This is our responsibility as God’s people. To display the gospel. To show the reality that Jesus came and died in our place, took on the penalty of our sin and rose again. We do this by taking communion together. The body and blood of Jesus represented in the bread and cup. And we are told to do this
in remembrance of Jesus.
This is not ritual and not mere liturgy. This is in remembrance of Jesus. Something we do as God’s people to make the gospel visible to one another to help us keep centered on Jesus and His redemptive work.

For the people of God
For the people of God who are responding to their sin in a God-honoring way

Repent
But in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you. And I believe it in part, for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.
People were not getting along and still taking the Lord’s Supper and were, in the process, ignoring people who were in need
When you come together, it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat. For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal. One goes hungry, another gets drunk. What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not.
It would be better to behave this way in your own home. What’s happening here in taking the Lord’s Supper is serious.
Pronouncement of Pardon
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Partake in unison
1 Corinthians 10:17 (ESV)
Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.
