Isaiah 9:6-7
Isaiah 9:6-7
How many of you believe in Jesus?
Why? What do you have to base your belief in Jesus on?
Why do you believe the Bible?
These are important questions that as Christians we must be able to answer, because the world thinks we’re crazy for believing the bible, so you have to know why you believe it.
There are a lot of people that try and use fancy arguments to defend the existence of God, but in reality the Bible can defend itself and prove that it is the Word of God, and not only that but it can defend all the things we say we believe about Jesus.
For a child has been born for us;
a son has been given to us.
And the dominion will be on his shoulder,
and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His dominion will grow continually,
and to peace there will be no end
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and sustain it
with justice and righteousness
now and forever.
The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this.
All through the book of Isaiah we have promises that God was going to send someone, and that person was going to change everything.
Tonight we are looking at one of the most famous verses that talks about Jesus around 700 years before he is even going to be born.
Verse 6
“A child will be born”
The savior of the entire world is coming not in some fancy display of power but as a baby- Isaiah 7
“Wonderful Counselor”
Jesus knows our pains
“Mighty God”
He is fully God
“Eternal Father”
The key word here is that it says He is eternal, meaning Jesus wasn’t created like you and me, but instead has always been there
“Prince of Peace”
Christ will one day bring peace to the entire world, but greater than that is He has brought peace between us and God.
Verse 7
Christ as as the promised descendent of David will establish an everlasting Kingdom, that He now rules over. Jesus is King.
Wrap-up
And a shoot will come out from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from its roots will bear fruit.
And the spirit of Yahweh shall rest on him—
a spirit of wisdom and understanding,
a spirit of counsel and might,
a spirit of knowledge and the fear of Yahweh.
And his breath is in the fear of Yahweh.
And he shall judge not by his eyesight,
and he shall rebuke not by what he hears with his ears.
But he shall judge the poor with righteousness,
and he shall decide for the needy of the earth with rectitude.
And he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and he shall kill the wicked person with the breath of his lips.
And righteousness shall be the belt around his waist,
and faithfulness the belt around his loins.
And a wolf shall stay with a lamb,
and a leopard shall lie down with a kid,
and a calf and a lion and a fatling together
as a small boy leads them.
And a cow and a bear shall graze;
their young shall lie down together.
And a lion shall eat straw like the cattle.
And an infant shall play over a serpent’s hole,
and a toddler shall put his hand on a viper’s hole.
They will not injure and they will not destroy on all of my holy mountain,
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of Yahweh,
as the waters cover the sea.
And this shall happen on that day:
the nations shall inquire of the root of Jesse,
which shall be standing as a signal to the peoples,
and his resting place shall be glorious.
Jesus is so much bigger than a guy we pray to, so we can hope we can go to heaven, He is King Jesus.
The sooner you know and believe that 3 things will happen:
You’ll take sin more serious
You’ll love and respect Christ more
And nothing will give you more hope then belonging to Jesus
