Intro: The finality of death

-          Benjamin Franklin: Death and Taxes

-          Philip Yancey – Puppy and Friend

Context:  John’s gospel – written by the apostle John

-          somewhere between 80-100AD

-          John 20:30-31 – Purpose of the Gospel

-          John 10 – The Jews were going to kill Jesus for declaring his divinity

  1. There is purpose in the midst of pain
  2. Jesus understands our sufferings
  3. We are provided with ultimate hope: the resurrection

Application

-          We need to focus on Christ in our trials

-          We need to support each other during trials

-          We need to look forward to Christ’s return

Conclusion

As we approach Easter, we should be mindful of Christ
