Introduction

You ever dig back into your genealogy? I started to last night and I only used free resources, so dont worry Rach but honestly if I had 1000 dollars I would have spent it all. I get so intrigued by history and I always have. Now sometimes you dig into your history and you may not find some things you like. Truth be told our trees are filled with murderers, theives, war villains, back stabbers liars, and maybe even an Alabama fan or two. No one has ever been exempt from this. You know who that includes? Jesus. As a matter of fact Jesus’ genealogy had some names that make a pig blush.
Now its important to understand the importance of the genealogy of those days. A king was only a king if he had the proper lineage. You did not run for king just as much as you cant run for the king of England.
As a king or governor or ruler or person of high reputation. You would want to have a great resume. You would wear your genealogy with great pride and want all to see it and you would hide the parts you didnt like.
for example there are certain things in my resume I am proud about, but I probably leave out that in 2010 I was fed up with a horrible abusive boss and he was mad I asked off for my sisters wedding. He sent me to do a horrible job by myself in the middle of the heat in july. i told him i would do it but it was the last thing I would do. It was the last thing I did for him except watch him hand me my last check.
I leave that out.
Now Matthew is the hired and chosen one for the first genealogy of Jesus. And honestly he should have stuck to his job as a tax collector. To the human and even Jewish eye, this genealogy is abysmal and embarrasing for anyone yet alone someone claiming to be a king. BUT LOOK HOW MATTHEW STARTS.

1 This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:

Messiah which means christos and from the hebrew word meshiac promised one.
Promised from whom??King David himself in Psalm 2 He was the promised one and would save the nations

2 Abraham was the father of Isaac,

Isaac the father of Jacob,

Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,

3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,

Perez the father of Hezron,

Hezron the father of Ram,

4 Ram the father of Amminadab,

Amminadab the father of Nahshon,

Nahshon the father of Salmon,

5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab,

Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth,

Obed the father of Jesse,

6 and Jesse the father of King David.

first section is Abraham, the father of all of us right. just like the song says. from Pagans
then the first woman of 5 women mentioned/never mention women in genealogy/ ESPECIALLY like this//shame surrounding all 5 // tamar story graphic
rahab the harlot in faith feared God
Ruth. how can we forget a story surrounding her

David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,

7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam,

Rehoboam the father of Abijah,

Abijah the father of Asa,

8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat,

Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram,

Jehoram the father of Uzziah,

9 Uzziah the father of Jotham,

Jotham the father of Ahaz,

Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,

10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh,

Manasseh the father of Amon,

Amon the father of Josiah,

11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.

Now David’s section. and boy do we come out swingning. we dont even mention her name. bathsheeba // davids own family and son // could have been with michael

12 After the exile to Babylon:

Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel,

Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,

13 Zerubbabel the father of Abihud,

Abihud the father of Eliakim,

Eliakim the father of Azor,

14 Azor the father of Zadok,

Zadok the father of Akim,

Akim the father of Elihud,

15 Elihud the father of Eleazar,

Eleazar the father of Matthan,

Matthan the father of Jacob,

16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.

17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.

Jesus was the exile
