Text:
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God.

Last week we spoke to you from the subject matter: “Give Glory, Give Honor to God”
Again Romans 1:21 reads:
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Apostle Paul speaking on the subject matter of humanity living in a state of sin and depravity says that God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men (Romans 1:18). Furthermore, Paul adds that God’s wrath is revealed because of the fact that they (humanity) knew God, yet they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. See in their mind, they thought that they were wise.....but Paul says they became fools. Instead of them giving glory, praise, and honor to God....they became depraved in their way of thinking and in their actions. They began to worship false gods created out of the depraved imaginations of their minds, idols of wood, stone, and metals.
God therefore (verse 24) gave them up uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves. God will allow you time and space to repent.....but if you refuse to repent, if you refuse to honor God and be thankful unto Him....He’ll gave you over to yourselves, to do whatever shameful things your hearts desire. We need to understand.....that sin produces depravity. What is depravity?
Depravity- the quality of being corrupt, evil, or perverted (merriam-webster dictionary). Depravity is a downward spiral, that over a period of time you become worse or that evil becomes imbedded within the individual.
Paul from verse 26 down to verse 31 begin to name clues and sins that can lead to depravity:
Now some of these things.....we shook our heads up and down and said yes....but there are some others on here that we got quiet about.
No you may not be into homosexuality, no you may not have committed murder, but your greed....so greed that you won’t give in the offering or pay your tithes. So greed, that you cheat on your taxes, so greed that you come up with ways to swindle people out of their money.
Perhaps, you have hatred in your heart for someone that may have hurt you.
Maybe you are envious of people because you want what they have, you lust after the position they hold, or you are jealous of what they have.
You could be a quarreler, you are always starting fights, always ready to beat someone down....or maybe you always start verbal disagreements and say hurtful things to people.
Maybe you are a deceptive person....you can’t tell the truth. You always have trickery up your sleeves.
Malicious behavior......do little slick stuff to try to hurt or dishonor someone.
Or.....maybe you are a gossiper. YES....THOSE PEOPLE WHO GET ON THE PHONE AND TALK ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE.....ESPECIALLY IF IT ISN’T TRUE.....THAT’S CALLED SLANDER. You know, I believe that some church may not make it into the kingdom of God because of this one. You are a busybody.....always trying to find the latest scoop. Mothers, Preachers, Deacons, Saints engage in gossip.....and if you don’t repent....it’s going to cost you!
Backstabbers, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boastful/braggers. Those who invent new ways of sinning, those who disobey their parents! Teenagers, children, even adults....those who disobey their parents! Those who refuse to understand, those who break their promises, those who are heartless, those who show no mercy!
Apostle Paul says “Who knowing the judgement of God (know the ramifications of such actions) that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them!”
I said last week that when you fail to “Honor God and be Thankful” it will cause you to be in bad places. When you truly honor God and are thankful to Him....it is more than lip-service. The LORD, I believe enjoy’s our praise.....but He doesn’t enjoy it if you are willfully living in sin. You send up praise......but He will reject it.....He rejects it because it is like smoke in His nostrils!
To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats. When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts? Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them. And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
You know, we are living in the dispensation of grace now, we don’t have to sacrifice animals to atone for our sins or to appease God. Jesus was that perfect sacrifice, the lamb of God which came to take away our sins. But now, we are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice Paul says. We are to offer a continual sacrifice of praise with the fruit of our lips. We give in offerings, we pay tithes, we sacrifice time, we sacrifice money, you know.....but The LORD was fed up with Israel’s outward worship because their heart was messed up. The LORD said don’t bring me no more sacrifice......I cannot....away with......away with your false sacrifices. The LORD even says in the last versus of this “And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.”
This is the reason why some of us have unanswered prayers......because you have unconfessed sin that is hindering your prayers. You have un-forgiveness in you heart, instead of practicing righteousness, you practice sin.....and because of this your prayers are hindered and unanswered.
You want your prayers to be answered, you want God to move in your life in an unprecedented manner? This is what you need to do:
Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
Judgement is Coming......It’s Time to Repent!!!
When you fail to honor God.....and be thankful unto Him, it will lead you down a road of depravity.
Dealing With The Text:
Dealing With The Text:
Paul writes in Romans 2:1 “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest. You look at this list, you are probably one of the ones that said “AMEN”, you think in your mind....oh I know I live holy and you look down upon those who commit such things, and you judge them, but Paul says you are just as bad!”
Paul says “wherein or when you judge another, you say those wicked people deserve to be judged, but Paul says “you are also condemning yourself”.
Paul then says in verse 2, “But we are sure that the judgement of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.” In other-words Paul says “that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things.” What things, the whole list of transgressions that Paul lists in the first chapter. Yes, the meek, nice, and gentle Jesus, the merciful and kind God, is also a God that will and is going to judge sin. You know when we were little we had vivid imaginations, as a kid you sometimes thought that there was a monster hiding in the room....in the darkness and the way that you coped with that was by pulling the covers over your head. Because as long as you don’t see the room.....you think that no harm can come to you. But the reality is that covering yourself with the blanket is not going to do anything.
You can think all you want to that God’s wrath won’t come on you. If you are living in sin, you can wishful think all you want to and think that when you close your eyes you are going to heaven. You can make believe all you want that if you live in sin and if the church is raptured that you are going to be with the LORD, but my brother, my sister you are sadly mistaken! Paul says “God is going to punish anyone who does such things!”
Listen to what the scriptures says:
The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.
Then Jesus himself says:
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Again:
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Finally:
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
And that’s why those of us who had been slipping and sliding, those of us that had backslid out of the church, we ought to tell the LORD thank you. Because he could’ve cut us off while we were in the midst of operating in our sins. He could’ve cut us off and we would’ve been destined for the wrath of God, His judgement, and on our way to the Lake of Fire......BUT THANK GOD......BUT THANK GOD.....BUT GOD BE PRAISED......THAT HE HAD MERCY ON ME.....AND GAVE ME TIME AND SPACE TO REPENT!
This is why Apostle Paul says:
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?
God’s goodness ought to compel you to repent! What you do you mean, here it is you are doing things that you know is contrary to God’s word, but God hasn’t cut you off, God still wakes you in the morning, God still sees to it that you have food on your table, God still sees to it that you have clothes on your back, God still sees to it that no physical or mental harm comes to you, God still watches out for you, He still watches out for your children, He keeps you employed, He keeps your car running.....all of these blessings God does for you on top of allowing you a chance to get it right....and you don’t want to repent of your sins? You don’t want to live for God after all He has done for you?
But then Paul says:
But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.
A day of anger is coming......you can pretend it’s not coming but it’s still coming. You can preoccupy your mind with worldly affairs but it is still coming.
Just because you think you are alright doesn’t mean that you are alright. It is easy for us to condemn someone else and yet be totally ambiguous to our own plight, let me make that plain for you, it’s easy to judge someone, it’s easy to talk about what someone else is doing, it is easier to point out someone else’s faults but have a hard time identifying your own faults!
One of the first things that is needed to be saved is to know that you stand in need of a savior, you stand in need of deliverance!
Knowing that if we engage in sins, especially willful sins, the result of those sins is death. Not just physical death, but spiritual death, and not only spiritual death but the wrath of God. The Bible states “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
Altar Call:
I remember a time in which we use to come to the altar and cry out to the LORD to save us. I remember a time when the word would come forth and would find us and we would run to the altar because we did not want to be lost! You know it’s been awhile since we’ve had an altar call like that......we won’t come to the altar because we don’t want to be found out, we won’t come to the altar because we don’t want to be embarrassed.....that’s PRIDE.....and God hates PRIDE.....He hates a proud look. We need to get back to a place where we run to the altar and lift our hands and cry to the LORD to save us, we need to get back to a place where we run to the and cry out to the LORD to deliver us, we need to get to the altar and cry out to the LORD to refill us with the Holy Ghost, we need to come out with our hands lifted......are dare someone that standing in the need of a savior, I dare someone that knows you need to be saved, I dare someone who knows that they need to be saved some more, you need deliverance, you need freedom from sin.....come out (literally) with your hands up......come out of those pews, come down to the altar and call on the name of the LORD......for whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved!
If you need to be saved come on, if you want to repent of your sins and be baptized in Jesus’ name come on......come out of those comfort zones! Come out of those sins, come out.....and surrender to the LORD!
TURN TO THE LORD AND BE SAVED!!!
