“For the next few weeks, as we waiting for Christmas to finally arrive, we’re going to talk about a plan that actually did go according to plan.

It’s a plan that…

Was created by God.Was set in motion before time even exited.Involves a little bit waiting.And is capable of changing our lives.

And that plan has a lot to do with Christmas.

“Talk about a Christmas plan that didn’t go according to plan?

We all talk about that next week

Waiting is easier when we have a end in sight.

When it comes to our plans Christmas plans, that's easy!

We know exactly when all of our waiting and planning is going to end.

SN = what is the most frustrating or annoying about waiting or planning is NOT know when is end, what’s it for, why are we do this.

Etc…

But sometimes, even when we’ve been waiting patiently, our plan don’t go according to plan.

Waiting for God’s Plan

Which one are you most likely/identify yourself to be?

Have your ever notices that life has a lot of waiting?

“How good are you at waiting?”

SN = Me personal NO I can do better!

There are some things that I’m willing to wait for, but I don’t really have patience to wait for forever.

Maybe you can relate!

On a scale of 1 to 10, “which a toddler who wants a snack” or “someone who camps for for three days to get a Black Friday deal,” How good are you at waiting?

“What are you waiting for?”

SN = throughout the whole year, is their something that you are waiting for?

Example = birthday, vacation or tip, a book or movie or video game release.

PS, XBox, car,

Christmas is almost here, which means we’re waiting ….and waiting…and waiting for the big day.

This Christmas, what are you most excited for?

What does the Bible say about waiting!!!!

“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him.

It is good that one should hope and wait quietly For the salvation of the Lord.”

Lamentations 3:25-26

“Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.”

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope.

“There’s a good you’ve heard the Christmas story before.

Mary, Joseph, a manager, baby Jesus——you get the idea.

But God started making Christmas plans long before that day.

“To trace the beginning of God’s plans, we actually need to go all way back to the very beginning of the Bible, to another story the might be kind of familiar.

God’s plan began where humanity’s whole story began: in the Garden of Eden.In the very beginning, God created the very first people, Adam and Eve.Back then, God and humanity had a close relationship and everything was as it should been.But then a certain serpent appeared on the scene.

“So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:14-15‬ ‭

“And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Amen.”

Romans 16:20

“From the moment on, everything changed.

Because of sin, humanity’s relationship with God was altered forever.

It might seem like God’s plan had already gone wrong, but God doesn’t seem surprised.

Instead, we get a hint of Gods plan.

Yes, thing had gone wrong, but someday things will be made right.One day, a child would be born who would put an end to sin and death forever.

“‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will perform that good thing which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah: ‘In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David A Branch of righteousness; He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

In those days Judah will be saved, And Jerusalem will dwell safely.

And this is the name by which she will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’” ‭Jeremiah‬ ‭33:14-16‬

“That plan was still sounding pretty vague to us humans though, so over time God started to give us more hints about what was in store.

Long after Adam and Eve, God began to speak to humanity through prophets.

“During the time of King David, in around 1000BC(about 3,000 yrs ago), God gave humanity an update on the plan.

We were told the baby God promised was still on the way, and that that baby descendant of King David.

“Then God gave up another update through the prophet Jeremiah, who lived around 650-750BC.

That’s like 2,700 years ago.

Jeremiah had a job.

At one time, God’s people, the Israelite’s, had been a powerful nation, but during Jeremiah’s time, their sinful choices and disobedience to God had led to their downfall.The nation of Israel split in two: Israel and Judah.

These nations fought wars with each other and their neighbors.

Poverty led to people going hungry and without homes.

A lethal combination of jealousy and pride left them vulnerable to attack from other nations.The strengthening nation of Babylon became a huge threat to God’s people.

If Babylon invaded the city, they thought, it wouldn’t just be them who was defeated.

“No, this “the righteous Branch” thing is not about Root or Tree-beard.

This is about the “family tree” of humanity.

From Adam and Eve, to King David, all the way to a future King who God would use to save the world.

For a long time, this was all humanity knew about God’s plan.Jeremiah had the privilege of sharing the Good News that God’s plan was still in the works.

But there was a catch: we still had some waiting to do!

“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers.”

‭‭Matthew 1:1-2

“And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.”

‭‭Matthew 1:16-17

“Why is this important?”

It’s important because this list of names shows us how God’s plan unfolded over generations!

Each of these people, for generations, knew what it was like to wait for future Savior God had promised.Jesus’s ancestors included all sorts of people——men, women, kings, nobodies, shepherds, widows, religious people, not-so-religions people, and more.

And each of these people, mentioned by name in Jesus’s ancestry, were part of God’s big plan—-but they all had to wait for it.

Messiah would be heir to King David's throne.

““When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.” 2 Samuel 7:12-13 OT

“Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever.

The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”

Isaiah 9:7 OT

“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.””
