Christmas is a season where we should embrace the heart of the saints of old as they waited with great anticipation for the arrival of the Messiah. Therefore, Christmas should draw us closer to God as we remember the greatest Gift ever given, His Son, Jesus.

Personal Notes

Luke 1:47 Where/ what is our joy rooted in? Mary’s was in, “God my Savior.”
Luke 1:48
God saw Mary and God sees you.
Luke 1:49
This is personal for Mary and it’s not just about her becoming pregnant. It’s not just about the gift/ blessing it is about WHO the blessing is.
Are we more concerned with the gift or the Giver?
I.e. “Do I want loving parents more than I want the newest iPhone?”
When we get desensitized to the Giver we no longer remember He is a gift of God’s grace towards us and we, at that point, abuse the gift because what has been graciously given is now an expectation in our hearts and minds.
Luke 1:51-53

3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,

for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Luke 1:54
God does not forget and He has not forgotten you.

Professional Notes

Luke 1:46
Luke Comments

Mary praised God for what he was about to do and for the part she was privileged to play in his plan.

Have you ever trusted God enough to praise Him for something that hadn’t happened yet but you had that much trust in Him.
Daniel 3:16-18
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”
Luke 1:48
“For” tells the reader or lets us know that this is why Mary is praising God.
In this verse it may refer to the low state or status in which Mary was held by the standards of this world.
Luke Comments

Yet the salvation of which Mary rejoiced also looks beyond her to the nation of Israel

Her praise wasn’t just about her. She knew that God was using her to bring salvation to the entire world.
Do we choose to soak in the desperateness of our circumstances, our home life, a mean teacher, a bad grade OR do we choose to rejoice in the fact that the God of the Universe knows us by name and has chosen us to know Him and hold the mystery of the Gospel, which is to have a relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ.
Mary had a role to play, she brought Jesus into the world to bring salvation to the world.
You and I, once we connected to the life-changing power of Jesus Christ have a role to play. That is to rejoice in the truth of the Gospel and point other people to Jesus.
Matthew 28:19-20
