King in the Chaos

tell some story about when things didnt go like you wanted them to

An unexpected set up

we often
Matthew 1:18–19 ESV
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.

God’s plan doesnt always look the way we want it to.

A difficult journey

Matthew 2:13–15 ESV
Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

God’s plan often leads us down paths that arent easy

A broken set of circumstances

Matthew 2:16–18 ESV
Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah: “A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be comforted, because they are no more.”

God’s plan doesnt negate brokeness - but he doesnt enter in to it

Just because we follow God, doesnt mean we wont experince brokeness. In fact, the people who have followed Jesus the hardest often experience the most brokeness

Clarity in the Confusion

4 times God speaks through angles and dreams to help guide the wise men and the mary and joseph
will your life get confusing, will you life not go how you expect it? YES - 100% with out a doubt, YES! but i have found that when i dont understand the things that are happening to me, is when God speaks to me the most. In the confusion is when we often recieve the most clarity. And sometimes it doesnt change the confusing circumstance. It just reoreints us to the author of clarity.
In the confusion of your life, listen to God for clarity

Meaning in the Mayhem

4 times Matthew quotes Old Testament prophecies:
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel”
“ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ”
“Out of Egypt I called my son.”
“A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be comforted, because they are no more.”

A King in the Chaos

lastly, Even in the midst of the chaos, Jesus is presented as the one true king.
