WHY WE NEED REST

Here the Lord gives the deciding FACTORS on why we need rest in our lives.

I. We See Their LOCATION. v.30

They rallied in a place.

30 And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus,

apostles - ἀπόστολος apostolos - a messenger; one sent on a mission

1 Corinthians 12:29

Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?They recounted to a Person.

2 Corinthians 11:13

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

Revelation 2:2

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

Revelation 21:14

And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

All Christians are not apostles, as that is an office.

All Christians are sent with a message from the Master as we are ambassadors.

2 Corinthians 5:20 (AV)

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

They rallied around a Person.

and told him all things,

told him - ἀπαγγέλλω apangellō - announce; report

Mar 5:33

But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

Is Jesus God in human flesh? Yes (John 1:14)

Jesus requires us to report to Him with all the details. He is the Master!

Jesus wants to hear what you have been doing.

both what they had done,

Jesus wants to hear what you have been teaching.

and what they had taught.

The message we have taught.

The manuscript we taught from.

Here the Lord gives the deciding FACTORS on why we need rest in our lives.

I. We See Their LOCATION. v.30

What the Lord said.

31 And he said unto them,

We must note the instructions.

Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place,

apart - κατά kata/ἴδιος idios - According to one’s own

Resting is not a thing to be 7 days 24 hours a day.

We must note the interpretation.

and rest a while:

rest - ἀναπαύω anapauō (three things are represented:)

revive

rest

remain quiet

a while - ὀλίγος oligos (three things are represented:)

little

few

short

Why He Said it.

Because of the crowds.

for there were many coming and going,

Other were trampling around them.

Others were going places.

Because of the commotion.

and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

leisure - εὐκαιρέω eukaireō have opportunity; have time

It is important to have oppotunity to rest.

It is important to have time to rest.

It is important Whom guides you to where and when you rest.

32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

They did as Jesus said.

Will you do as Jesus said?

Conclusion:

Are you a Christian that takes rest and leisure time or one that abuses rest and leisure?

Are you a Christian that goes all the time and never rests?
