Eschatology: Terms and Vocabulary
SICKLE - A sharp tool used for cutting grain.
Probably much smaller than the modern scythe, with the cutting edge made of sharp flints set into the wood
ANGELS - as Messengers.
In the Bible, angels are spiritual beings who serve primarily as messengers.
The English word “angel” comes directly from a Greek word for messenger.

Introduction
This Morning we have been given a glimpse of the time when Jesus returns to judge the world.
Chapters 4–11 cover the Tribulation from the rapture through the end of tribulation.
Chapters 12–14 go back and cover the same period in more detail.
These verses reveal the judgment that will come at the end of Tribulation as the Lord returns in power.
Jesus came the 1st time as a Lamb of sacrifice; He will return as the Lion of Judah.
He came as Savior of men; He will return as the righteous Judge.
There won’t be a crown of thorns, but a crown of glory.
There will be no cross to bear or tomb in which to be laid, just a throne to rule and reign in power!
We will deal with this hour later in more detail as we move further through Revelation.
This Morning let’s see what these verses reveal concerning: The Lord’s Harvest.
The title of our teaching this morning is:
I.
A Sharp Sickle for the Harvest
A day is coming when Jesus will take a seat in the clouds*.
He will wear a golden crown and hold a sharp sickle.
The crown will identify him as a king, and the sickle will signify a coming harvest.
The Scriptures teach that Jesus will come back in the clouds as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
He said, “The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.
Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.
The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire.
There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:39–42 NKJV).
It will be a terrible day for the lost because not only will it be their last day on earth, but their destiny will be sealed for eternity as well.
David Hocking -Jesus was called “the Son of Man” throughout the Gospels.
It was the title he most often used for himself.
It is a reminder that our coming Judge is one who knows what we are like.
His humanity gives him valid credentials for judging mankind.
John 5:27 (NKJV) says the Father “has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.”
II.
Not Another Angel
another angel In addition to the three mentioned in vv.
6–9.
As Jesus appears in the clouds, an angel will come forth from the heavenly temple.
He will urge Jesus to take his sickle and reap because the time of judgment has arrived and the harvest is ready.
The Greek word for “ripe,” xeraino, means “totally ripe, rotten, or withered.”
“The harvest of the earth is ripe” shows us that God will withhold his judgment until the last minute.
When his judgment falls, the Church will have been raptured, most of the Tribulation Saints and Jews will have been killed, and the world will be totally corrupt.
No one will be able to truthfully claim that Jesus acted too soon.
In fact, the Tribulation Saints have already asked God how long he would wait to judge and avenge their blood,
and he told them to wait a little longer (Revelation 6:10–11).
He will wait, but when the end of the Tribulation Period starts drawing near the time will come to wait no more.
