DECLARATION:

Ephesians 2:20–22 (ESV)

20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

SVCC is built by God, upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.

We are joined together by union with Christ, we are growing, and we are a dwelling place of God by his Spirit.

Opening Scripture:

Ruth 4:4 NLT

Ephesians 1:7 NLT

7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

Leviticus 25:23–25 (ESV)

23 “The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine. For you are strangers and sojourners with me. 24 And in all the country you possess, you shall allow a redemption of the land.

25 “If your brother becomes poor and sells part of his property, then his nearest redeemer shall come and redeem what his brother has sold.

Why we need redemption:

1) Redeemed from slavery of sin

7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!

For with the Lord there is steadfast love,

and with him is plentiful redemption.

8 And he will redeem Israel

from all his iniquities.

John 8:34 (ESV)

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.

2) Redeemed from Enemy Oppressors

Deuteronomy 15:15 (ESV)

15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you; therefore I command you this today.

Psalm 107:2 (ESV)

2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,

whom he has redeemed from trouble

3) Redeemed from the power of death

Psalm 49:8–9 (ESV)

8 for the ransom of their life is costly

and can never suffice,

9 that he should live on forever

and never see the pit.

Jesus is uniquely qualified to redeem us:

***The virgin birth of Jesus is what allowed him to be our redeemer because it was the only way he could be our relative and yet without sin himself.

Hebrews 2:14–17 (ESV)

Jesus redeemed us:

Hebrews 9:12 (ESV)

We are in the middle still of redemption being brought about:

23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
