What did Jesse talk about last week?
God’s Mercy
Getting what we dont deserve
God loving us enough being good to us
Have any of you ever recieved mercy from someone else?
I do this with my kids
I give them mercy and sometimes I call it grace
I give mercy or grace to some of you
Grace and mercy are things we often put together
Even the bible put these two things together often
They normally include God’s love as well
These are three of God’s attributes that god together but remember all of his attributes are all of him all the time
God’s wrath doesnt work independently from his grace mercy or love
God’s Justics works hand in hand with his grace and mercy
This is the best thing about God he isnt some things sometimes and other things other time
We dont have to worry about how God will work because he will always be the same
Read Ephesians 2:1-9
1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
We see these three attributes again here
We see these three attributes again here
Where do we see them what verses
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
So these three elements are in there but they focus on grace
Today we will talk about the grace of God
More its the part we will focus on
God’s Grace
God’s Grace
First what is it
It is God compassion on us to show us favor, forbear our unrighteousness, and save us from eternal damnation
We see this here in our passage
Lets look at he beginning
1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
Look this is our spiritual condition by nature
We are dead in our trespasses we have no way out
We follow the course of this world
we are sons of disobedience
Verse 3 makes this clear
Among whom we all once lived
We were all in this spiritual condition
We all walked like this
Some of you still do
Some in here still pursue the passions of our flesh
We are all children of wrath
But God does not kill us
But we are allowed to live
But we are allowed to go to school be cool get jobs have success in this life
45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
God in his grace stays his wrath
He sends substitution for us
By his grace we live sinful and forgiven
By his grace we have everything
We deserve nothing but by his grace we have been given so much
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
But God
Because of who he is
Because of his make up
His mercy
his love
by his grace he has saved us
Let us not think it is for any other reason that we have been saved
Jesus your mercy song
The best of my works pierced your hands and your feet
Nothing but his grace has saved us
We can do no good work outside of his grace
7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
