Why do we celebrate Christmas?

The Birth of Jesus

The Resurrection- Apart from what Jesus did by dying and rising again Christmas would be just another day

To have a deeper appreciation for the Christmas Story, we are going to seek to take a look at it from the perspective of Jesus.

Before the world began: Verse 5-6

Jesus existed in the form of God before the world existed- this speaks to the fact that Jesus is eternal, holy, and all-powerful

He did not regard this equality that He had with God as something to take advantage of, but instead He agreed to the plan to redeem people and come and save the world.

Incarnation: Verse 7

Jesus became a man

The most powerful and mighty God took on flesh and emptied Himself, that means He laid aside all His glory and praise He was worthy of, and came as a servant.

The Cross: Verse 8

As a man He was completely obedient to the will of God, to the point of dying on the cross for a people who deserved to die.

The Resurrection and Exaltation: Verse 9-11

God has highly exalted Him and set Him as Lord over all creation, restoring Him to His former glory, and made the promise that one day every knee will bow and recognize Him as King.

So what does this have to do with Christmas?

The coming of Jesus was always God’s plan, and it truly was the greatest act of humility and love in history, and we can look back and celebrate this wonderful day because we know that if we belong to Jesus one day we will be with Him.
