Romans 11:33–36 (ESV)
33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord,
or who has been his counselor?”
35 “Or who has given a gift to him
that he might be repaid?”
36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
Brothers, Paul writes these words at pivotal point in his letter to the Romans. He had spent the first 11 chapters declaring and explaining the gospel of our salvation, which reveals the righteousness of God from faith for faith (Romans 1:16-17). It is fitting that he should end his explanation with a spontaneous proclamation of praise. Theological study and reflection should likewise result in worship. You have sat through lessons. You have studied the deep things of the Triune God and the mystery of the gospel. It has been a pleasure to come alongside you these past few months.
That said, may your studies thus far and in the future result not only in the increase of head knowledge about God. May your studies result in an increase in a love for God and His people. May your studies and your ministries result in God-exalting worship. For as we learned in my class: God is the first and greatest of beings. May He be the first and greatest in your lives and ministries. Thank you.
