Intro and Engage

In a new series leading up to Christmas | God’s Big Story | Over 4 weeks we are looking at God’s big Story | We are going to learn God’s big plan for Harmony with us, for relationship and for Redemption and for revival | Leading up to the Birth of a Saviour.
John 1:14 ESV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Start here - He came full of Grace and Truth | I want you to remember as we walk through today | We are given Grace…but we are expected to live by Truth | God gives Grace, but expects you to live…by His Truth

Tension

We can either ayre on the side of Grace | or Truth | But where do we draw the line? Where did God, draw the line and what does he expect of us?
Title: Go ahead and let it SHOW.
My Hope: Is that you will know that you are saved by Grace, but understnad that His Truth is going to set you free.

Truth

Where are we? We are going all the way back to Exodus 12: The Passover.
Context | 70 people followed Jacob into Egypt | grew to 2.5 Million | Egyptions wanted to slave them, worried about take over | God wanted to deliver them | Moses goes to Pharaoh, Pharaoh doesn’t budge, and we are up to the 10th Plague.
Such a close parrallel - The Power of God to set his people free greatest work of deliverance up to this point | Parralells so closely to the work of deliverance of his son.
Exodus 12:1–5 ESV
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you. Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household. And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats,
Isrealites, turning to False Gods, enslaved, God decided to give them Grace and Salvation | We learn about the sacrafice| They sinned, there must be a a sacrafice | Hebrew word “Lamb” is young from the flock | then we see what they are told to do | By Grace, God gave them a lamb, it was a free gift | Wasn’t the life of the lamb that was going to save them
Exodus 12:6 ESV
and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.
| it was the death of the lamb | as you begin celebration, lamb must die | then what?
Exodus 12:7–8 ESV
“Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.
the blood of the lamb, must be applied.
Not just the death, but the application | “I love Jesus” - yes but do you?
Remember the followers of Jesus “Eat my flesh and drink my blood” - eewww - Jesus wasn’t talking about Physical - but they didn’t get it.
God is communicating way back then | Take the blood - and APPLY IT. APPLY IT TO YOUR HOUSE (Heart)
By Grace and by Mercy they where given the lamb | but the TRUTH is, you have to apply it - There was no condition for them to receive the lamb, come as you are.
Grace saves, Truth will set you free
Jesus puts it like this;
John 8:31-32
John 8:31–32 ESV
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
If you’ve received the grace, if it’s done a work, you will apply the blood and it will show from your fruit.
Paul says they will know you by your fruit, in fact, he puts it this way;
Romans 7:4–5 ESV
Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.
You bear fruit | Fruit of God, or Fruit for Death. Grace says come as you are | Truth says, don’t stay that way | Trust in God’s way.
Romans 3:23 ESV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Grace saves | Truth will set you free. Grace saves, we still need to repent.
Grace is a gift, offered, to anyone and everyone | Truth is what will change your life though.
Continue with the Passover Instructions
Exodus 12:9–11 ESV
Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted, its head with its legs and its inner parts. And you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover.
Deliverance is at hand | How interesting
Exodus 12:12 ESV
For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord.
God considers Isreal his “First born” - in light of that, Egypt refused to release his First born, so God took their first born. Phaorah was a God = Son had Diety, God said no, I am God | They where worshipping false gods, 112 different gods | We to, don’t we worship false gods? God wants to be your number 1.
Exodus 12:13 ESV
The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
What does God say? Shelter under the blood of the lamb. What are we told today? Shelter under blood of lamb | Jesus on Cross | It is FINISHED |
Romans 5:9 ESV
Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
1 John 1:7 ESV
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Ephesians 1:7 ESV
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
Hebrews 13:12 ESV
So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood.
Hebrews 9:22 ESV
Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
You shouldn’t want truth, and want ot change your heart because I am telling you - It’s because you truly believe God’s word.
*Exmaples* *Forgiveness* *Tithing* *Reading Gods word* *discipline* *working on your marriage*
You could be a good person, get to Heaven, God is going to ask “Where is the blood?” Has it been applied? Does it show?
You have been saved by Grace but you are set free by truth.
We have 2 problems.
Truth without Grace leads to rebellion: Do this | Do that | Super legalistic household will have rules, but no relationship, discipline, without love.
Truth is, the isrealites deserved to be judged and to be destroyed. We, deserve to be judged and to be destroyed. But for…God’s Grace.
Grace without Truth leads to relativism = It means that the truth can change dependent on your culture or surroundings. “I can do what I want”, I don’t want truth, I don’t want your truth, I don’t want God’s Truth, I don’t want to be challenged, I have my own truth, This can creep into the Bible thoughts and it stifles…growth - It stifles your god-given potential.
If God just let them off, they would keep sinning - there had to be a sacrifice.
Sometimes this level of Grace leads to “Get my sum Jesus” | Listen to just enough christian stuff | Be just enough vulnurable | Don’t do enough to get into the heavy.
Last week: Grace Saves | Truth Sets Free
Ephesians 2:8–9 ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Not about what you’ve done or going to do | Never been about you | It was never about the isrealites | It was about God’s Love | He didn’t just give the Lamb | They had to apply the blood | You have to apply the blood | and not because it’s about you, it’s because there are people out there | God loves you | God wants to work in you | God’s commandments are good | He wants you Thrive (Marriage, finances, yourself)
We will be a church where you belong | Jesus doesn’t say “get it right and then come to me” Jesus says “Come to me, as you are and I will change you” We will lead this way | A place that they can belong, before they believe, before they behave | Does this no standards? no
Romans 6:1–2 ESV
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
Truth is freeing = Truth is life Giving = REmember last week = Stay away from the fruit | Not to limit their fun, but to give them…LIFE | Grace says come you sinner, to the altar, Truth says, I want to transform what is dead to LIFE.
Truth isn’t just rules and regulations, truth is a Person.
Truth is not a “What” he is a WHO.
Jesus is the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE.
Grace Saves | Truth Frees.
Passover = a story of deliverance, of grace and of truth.
It’s a story of God, delivering 1 family for 1 lamb.
Remember Isaac and Abraham | walking up | Dad wheres lamb
John Baptist, answers this question and says “Here is the Lamb of God”
1 Lamb, for entire world. Saved by Grace, unearned Gift | undeserved, but you get it - truth is, God has more for you - if you live and commit to his ways.
Baggage | Addicitons | hurt | You’re weclomere here | You will also hear truth. His wonderful truth. Challenged, convicted, to change.
You have the blood, now you have to apply it. And if you got to know who Jesus REALLY is, I think you’ll want to follow him.
*altar call*
God is here, wanting to change your heart. God is here, wanting to revive, God is here!
