Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
Will You Be Wise This Christmas?
I. People Who Seek Jesus Are Wise
Matthew 2:1–2 (KJV 1900)
Now when Jesus was born in Beth-lehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Seeking Jesus isn’t one night experience.
A. Not called wise men because of this, but in this they were wise
Seek ye the Lord while he may be found,
Call ye upon him while he is near:
The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
Phil. 3:8-9
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
II. THEY ARE WISE WHO SEEK TO KNOW GODS WORD
Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
A. It is appalling the ignorance that there is regarding God’s Word
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
III. THEY ARE WISE WHO HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF GOD’S WILL
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
A. Through His Word we know His will. Seek to know more and more
Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
IV. THEY ARE WISE WHO ARE READY FOR THE LORD’S RETURN
Matt. 25:4
But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
A. They are looking for Him, living for Him, waiting for Him
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
