38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
I want to begin by reading an oft used passage of scripture.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of his saints.
I cannot think of a more fitting verse of scripture for the occasion of celebrating the life of Martha Clark.
As I listened to the family and friends talk of her, the love and respect that was felt was apparent.
Stories had a specific storyline...
Not funny...
Not sad...
Not of things she accomplished in this life...
BUT of the things that she did for those around her!
Story of Martha and feeding the 2019 Flood relief workers.
Martha said: I got this!
Tabatha (Dorcas) - full of good works Acts 9: 36-39
King James Version (Chapter 9)
...and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
They were not weeping just because it was a sad day, but because they had lost someone who invested in them!
As odd as this sounds, Martha wasn’t really happy with her lot in life…
In a study of the Gospels, we came to Luke 10 and the story of Mary and Martha...
She so wanted to be like Mary...
To the point I teased her for some time, every time I would call her name I would say; “Martha, Martha”
Then I would assure her that without the Martha’s in the Kingdom of God, there would be no place for the Mary’s to sit!
I don’t know what Jesus’ voice sounded like when he walked this earth all those years ago, but I know what was said last Tuesday… He met her at Heaven’s portal and said, Martha, Martha!
Join me! We have an eternity to spend together!
I would be remiss if I did not take the time to remind you that Martha wants you to join her at the feet of Jesus!
One of the most common statements that I have heard is “We will see her again”.
That statement is based on the assumption of heaven for everyone.
But that is not what Martha believed.
Often we had conversations about eternity and the clear mandate of the Word of God for eternal life.
In a recent conversation an observation was made… It’s not about eternal life, we all will life forever!
The questions is, where will eternity be for you?
Martha’s whole life was lived pointing people to heaven!
You want to see her again?
Learn to love what she loved!
People - charity work
Preaching - collection of preachers on DVD
Church - When she could not go, she started one!
Word of God - everythng she was taught from the Word, she embraced!
