We have journeyed through a few of the carols that make up the sounds of this season.
As we come closer and closer to Christmas Day, we want to remind ourselves of what this season is all about!
Today I want to look at, in my opinion, the most vibrant and uplifting of all the carols.
Joy to the World.
As we look at three of the verses from this Carol, I want to draw attention to three lessons we can learn through this carol.
Let’s sing that first verse together:
Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King; let ev’ry heart prepare him room and heav’n and nature sing, and heav’n and nature sing, and heav’n, and heav’n and nature sing.

I. Joy Because He Came

Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King;

A. Came to be King

There was great joy that night because the king was born!
Psalm 98:4–6 KJV
4 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: Make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. 5 Sing unto the Lord with the harp; With the harp, and the voice of a psalm. 6 With trumpets and sound of cornet Make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.
Yes, He came to be King!
But even more importantly He...

B. Came to Dwell

let ev’ry heart prepare him room
Ephesians 3:17 KJV
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
God desires to dwell with you.
This is more than living in, it’s living with.
We can dwell with Christ by:
Reading the Bible
Psalm 119:105 KJV
105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.
The primary purpose of reading the Bible is not to know the Bible but to know God. — James Merritt
Colossians 3:16 KJV
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Peanuts Cartoon With Sally trying to remember a verse she memorized.
She says I memorized the Bible verse we were supposed to memorize for Sunday...
Charlie Brown asks her, “What verse?”
She replies “I don’t know now you made me forget…maybe it was something Moses said, or something from the book of reevaluation.”
She never did find the memory verse, but we should always read the Bible with the intent of reevaluating our attitudes and actions to make sure they are in line with the truth of God’s Word.
Praying
Proverbs 15:8 KJV
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: But the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Psalm 141:2 KJV
2 Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; And the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
Our prayers are the scented candles of God’s throne room!
Revelation 5:8 KJV
8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
Fellowshipping
Matthew 18:20 KJV
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
A.W. Tozer in his book The Pursuit of God said, “Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow.”
Just as such if we tune heart, each of us to God, we will have unity with each other.
Hearing of Preaching
Romans 10:17 KJV
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

C. Came to Bring Glory

and heav’n and nature sing.
John 1:14 KJV
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 13:31–32 KJV
31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. 32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
3 No more let sins and sorrows grow nor thorns infest the ground; he comes to make his blessings flow far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found, far as, far as the curse is found.

II. Joy in a Broken World

The broken world around Him rejoiced, because the breaking of the curse has it’s birth.

A. Broken by Sin

No more let sins and sorrows grow
Romans 5:12 KJV
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
I don't need to tell you about the brokenness of sin all around us!
So yes this world is broken by sin and we see that for...

B. Now Nature Groans

nor thorns infest the ground;
We can read about this broken world in Romans 8
*****SHOW VERSE SLIDES AS I TALK ABOUT THE VERSES*******
Romans 8:19–22 KJV
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. 20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
19 For the earnest expectation [Greek word means watch with neck outstretched] of the creature [all of creation/the universe] waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. [The day when we, in our new bodies, will be with Christ in that new earth]
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, [All Creation fell subject to the curse, not voluntarily]
[Just picture the enormous hurt and damage and decay that take place in our world. Think about …
• the disease and savagery of the animal world
• the hurt and damage that so easily happens in the plant world
• the destruction and deterioration that takes place in the mineral world
Think about the earthquakes, tornados, storms, diseases, starvation, attacks, and struggles for survival that take place.
And these are only a few of the many happenings that show the corruption of the world.]
The verse continues...
but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
[At the same time the curse came, hope was given!
A shadow of hope of the one who would come and bruise the head of the serpent.]
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
2 Peter 3:13 KJV
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
[Yes nature around us groans for the day that the curse will finally be broken!]

C. Christ Broke the Curse

he comes to make his blessings flow far as the curse is found,
He broke the curse of the Law that pointed to our sin.
Galatians 3:13 KJV
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
He broke this curse through his death, hanging on that tree, the cross.
We now have freedom in Christ!
One day all of nature will be free from the curse.
Until then, all of God’s creation is upheld by the power of His word!
Hebrews 1:3 KJV
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
One day we will have a New Heaven and New Earth, where God’s original design for this earth will be realized!
We will fellowship with God!
The third verse points to this wonderful day, when He will rule the world with truth and grace.
Sing that fourth verse with me now.
4 He rules the world with truth and grace and makes the nations prove the glories of his righteousness and wonders of his love, and wonders of his love, and wonders, wonders of his love.

III. Joy Brought by Our King

The very nature and attributes of our King will bring us joy!

A. Truth and Grace brings Joy

He rules the world with truth and grace
John 14:6 KJV
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
What a joy it will be to have a world leader that you know speaks the truth!

B. Righteousness brings Joy

and makes the nations prove the glories of his righteousness Romans 14:17
Romans 14:17 KJV
17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Proverbs 10:28 KJV
28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: But the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

C. Love Brings Joy

and wonders of his love,
We all know the joy that love brings to our hearts!
The loss of love brings about great depression.
But because of the very nature of our King, we will never be unloved!
Romans 8:38–39 KJV
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
That evening so long ago, in a little stable in Bethlehem, a child was born.
That child’s birth began a series of events.
A series of events that were prophesied many years before.
A series of events that would include:
The salvation of all would trust in this child.
The healing of all creation, for which the whole universe had groaned.
The establishment of this child, one day, as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Because of His coming, we have hope!
That is the wonder of the this season.
That is the joy that comes from the sounds of the season!
