“What do you see when you lift up the Christ-Child?”
For Simeon, the answer is found in (v.30)
I. Consider the Man Simeon – (2:25-27)
1.
He had a RESOLUTE HEART FOR GOD – (v.25a)
“…this man was just and devout…”
His conduct reflected his faith!
He was devoted to the WORD and WILL of God!
2. There was an ANTICIPATION for the “Consolation of Israel” – (v.25b)
3.
There was the PRESENCE OF GOD in his life – (v.25c)
Which resulted in two things:
1) REVELATION– (v.26)
2) GUIDANCE– (v.27a)
Because of the work of the Holy Spirit, Simeon experienced the PROMISE of God and the FULFILLMENT of that promise!
By the way—it is the same with us!
It is the Holy Spirit of God who REVEALS who Jesus is, and it is the Holy Spirit who leads us to faith in Christ!
II.
Consider the RESULTS of the Simeon’s RELATIONSHIP to God – (2:28-32)
AS a result of the presence of the Spirit of God, and Simeon’s submission to the leading of the Spirit of God, he experienced the following:
1. POSSESSION – (v.28a)
Simeon EMBRACED GOD!
2. PRAISE – (v.28b) – “…AND blessed God AND said…”
3. PEACE – (v.29a)
Not just an absence of conflict, but true contentment, true joy!
Not based on mere feelings, but on a…
4. PROMISE – (v.29b) (Job 21:19-27)
5. PROVISION – (v.30)
Jesus is God’s provision for our sins!
SO I ASK YOU AGAIN
“What do you see when you behold the Christ-child?”
You see, according to Simeon, there is a UNIVERSAL APPEAL in this story!
(v.31) – The Gospel is to be “…before the face of all peoples” (v.32) – The Gospel is “A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles…”
ALL OF HEAVEN IS AWAITING YOUR RESPONSE!
Will you believe in Jesus?
Will you trust in the PROVISION and PROMISE of God? Resulting in the PEACE and PRAISE of God…
Will you HOLD JESUS IN YOUR ARMS, and in POSSESSING Him, be POSSESSED BY GOD?
