Christ the seed of God and the seed of Abraham
Christ the seed of God and the seed of Abraham
23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed.
24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
In the above passages two important things are revealed to us
since Christ is the son of God, when we are born of Christ, when we put on Christ we become the children of God.
Chirst is called the seed of Abraham, How is it that we become Abraham seed.
Is Christ connected to Abraham because of Biology
Somehow when we are born of Christ we become Abraham seed because Christ was literal biological seed of Abraham.
Is Christ and we through Christ are the seed of Abraham through Biological descent.
NO?, Christ is the seed of Abraham because of the promise not because of the flesh.
We are the seed of Abraham because of the promise not because of the flesh.
Christ is the seed of God
1 Peter 1:18–25 (NKJV)
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you
21 who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,
23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God [Christ] which lives and abides forever,
24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away,
25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.
Christ is the incorruptible seed of God
He was forordained from the foundation of the World.
Promises
there are promises that only apply to the Isaac the seed of Abraham
There is also promises that apply only to the Isaac.
Translation
literal / formal equivalance
Literal translations make the original language more transparent but can sound awkward to the modern ear and therefore require more clarification and explanation.
Dynamic equivalence
Dynamic translations tend to be easier for modern readers to understand but may hide or lose some of the ancient elements of the text, such as cultural customs, wordplays, allusions, and figures of speech.
