Mary gets a visit
a life changing news
this young woman (12-14 years) gets the news that will not only forever change her life, but the all the earth.
Mary was also in need of a savior, she is not extra holy or special. She is a sinful human also

How we continue How Jesus came!!!

the story we know....
Mary and Joseph are going to to Bethlehem , riding on a donkey
A1
and once they get there , they are no inns available
A2
and because of this Jesus was born in a stable
A4
This is the story that we see and tell every year. We see images of this in paintings and nativity all around America

Why we celebrate Christmas......

Luke 2:1–20 (NASB95)
1 Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth.
2 This was the first census taken while Quirinius (Qi-rare -as) was governor of Syria.
3 And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
5 in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.
6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.
7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12 “This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”
16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.
17 When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.
18 And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.
19 But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.
20 The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

Lets look at this Christmas story Biblical and historically

V. 1-5

Luke 2:1–5 NASB95
1 Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. 2 This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city. 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, 5 in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.

census, travel

We know here that Joseph had to register for a census.
Joseph decided to take his pregnant wife with him to register…
What is this saying ?
Joseph was obedient to God, by listening to the angel and not sending Mary away but keeping her. He went to register with Mary
This was a long trip
From Nazareth to Bethlehem it is about a 70 mile trip.

Now history!!!!

The Bible never says that Mary rode a donkey from Nazareth to Bethlehem,
Joseph and Mary were poor and the cost of a donkey then could cost anywhere from a month to a couple of year’s wages to have (depending on the size ans age)
So we can say the there is strong chances that MAry herself walked, because they could not afford even a donkey to ride.

Silence and unnoticed

v. 6-7

Luke 2:6–7 NASB95
6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
There is no Bible stance or proof that Jesus gave birth the day that they arrived in Bethlehem.
In fact we have be sure, through scripture that Mary and Joseph were in town before she gave birth.

Giving birth to Jesus

History::::
it is proven in history of that time, that there was always a midwife to assist a woman in giving birth poor or rich.
Due to the fact that many woman died while giving birth, Midwives were a sure thing, even for a poor visitor like Mary.
Birthing stool (photo) was used for rich woman when giving birth.
Mary was poor,
so chances are that Mary gave girth standing up, while the midwife massages her stomach to assist in the baby being delivered.

No room in the INN

the story of Jaosph and MAry going from inn to inn looking, no
there was no room in the (ka-tal-lim-ma) a guest room
Pandocheion (pan-dol-chi- in) meaning an INN

So where did they stay? (Not a stable)

most people back then cut the homes out of stone. and part of the house was a place for the cattle. the cattle would normally find rest at night or during the bad time of the year to be protected from the elements.
It would almost be like a garage in todays time, but it was a cave.

A grand announcement
v.8-13
Luke 2:8–13 NASB95
8 In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 “This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
the first to get the announcement where Shepard, keeping and tending to there flocks at night.
but angels appard and the Glory of the Lord Shined all around them. light in the darkness

v.14

Luke 2:14 NASB95
14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
The Angles are praising and worshipping God because of this.

v.15-20

Luke 2:15–20 NASB95
15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.
The Shepards decided to see this thing, they got a chance to see angelic worship, now they need to see what.
Once they got there they seen all that was told to them was true, and as they shared the Mary and Joseph and other who were there, Mary, store these things in her heart (she hung on, thought it through,)
Id like to think that Mary remained silents because even as the miracle happened , she is unable to take it all in at once.
