Wk 1 - HOPE
ADVENT IS OUR SPIRITUAL RESET FROM HOLLY and GOODIES to HOLY and GOD’S LOVE
ADVENT IS OUR SPIRITUAL RESET FROM HOLLY and GOODIES to HOLY and GOD’S LOVE
We normally lean toward the person to whom we speak. We want to hear every word they say.
As followers and even us who feel far from God, we too have desires to hear Jesus clearly and to share with Him the desires of our hearts.
We want to “lean in,” as you might say, to Jesus Christ, our Savior and hear his words of life.
The promise of James 4:8 , “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you,” is Lean into Hope. Here is the scripture out of the NLT.
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.
Wk 2 - PREPARATION
God’s Promised Peace (Shalom): is a return to God’s original creation,
Ezekiel 34.25
Ezekiel 34:25 (NLT)
“I will make a covenant of peace with my people ….
He wants a relationship with you and me.
He wants it so bad that he sent John the Baptizer to prepare th3 way for his son Jesus. Thank you Father for breaking down this barrier of sin and shame and giving us your peace.
Wk 3 - JOY!: God’s Life coming to live in Me!
Wk 3 - JOY!: God’s Life coming to live in Me!
luke 1.16
He will turn many sons and daughters of Israel back to their God.
Because of Father breaking 400 years of silence to bring John the Baptizer to prepare the Way—Great Joy has come to All flesh.
A Savior Christ the Lord!
LOVE Wk 4
As we read about the Shepherd’s having an angelic encounter, while watching their sheep in the field in Luke 2:15, Luke concludes the encounter in verse 20.
luke 2.20
The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.
I’m sure they never forgot this God Encounter!
I’m sure they still told the Good News when they met people along the way and for days to come.
In Africa in 1866 English evangelist, Katherine Hankey had a serious spell of sickness while on a mission.
During her long days of convalescence, she wrote about the life of Jesus in two parts.
The first part was a poem of fifty stanzas, titled “The Story Wanted” (in January 29, 1866) and
the second part titled "The Story Told" (in November 18, 1866).
From the first set of writings came the familiar hymn, Tell me the old, old story. It was set to music by George Washington Doane, who was much impressed by the poem when it was recited by Major General David Russell while they were attending an international convention of the YMCA in Montreal in 1867.
Tell me the old, old story
Of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory,
Of Jesus and His love.
Tell me the story simply,
As to a little child,
For I am weak and weary,
And helpless and defiled.
Refrain: Tell me the old, old story,
Tell me the old, old story,
Tell me the old, old story,
Of Jesus and His love.
From the second writing came another hymn titled I love to tell the story. The tune was composed by William G. Fischer.
Refrain
"I love to tell the story, 'twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love.”
Let’s tell this
OLD STORY of LOVE again and again no matter how OLD it may get!

SERIES LESSON: Do you see what I see?
SERIES LESSON: Do you see what I see?
God Sees You—as a child of God
John 1.12
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
God Sees You—on a new course
Colossians 1:14
the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.
God Sees You—as his very own possession
God Sees You—NOT like the world, but holy
in every way
1 Peter 2:9
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests,* a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
God Sees You—as his ambassadors
2 Corinthians 5:20
So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
This so dove tails into this fourth week of Advent — Love
Making it Personal
Making it Personal
The Shepherds made it personal
The Shepherds made it personal
They told everyone they came to about the Good Newsand went back to their work!
We need to get back to work
We need to keep telling the Good News. It wasn’t just for the Shepherds to tell.
We need to have a God Encounter too. An encounter that makes us want to EXPRESS our LOVE for Jesus.
