Isaiah 3:16-4:6
Isaiah 3:16-4:6
The original audience was Jerusalem and Judah. But remember Paul wrote in two places that the Old Testament was written for our learning and admonition.
Romans 15:4
For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
1 Corinthians 10:11
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
Clearly we should learn from the mistakes of Israel. The greatest mistake being their rebellion against God.
Now Isaiah is going to prophesy about the haughty women of Jerusalem. Apparently their pride had led them to snub their noses to God and as a result Isaiah contrasted them with what they looked like then with what they would look like after God’s Judgment comes upon them.
In vs 16 Isaiah reveals the condition of these societal women. Five descriptions show us the level of their rebellion.
They were haughty. (arrogant, superior, disdainful)
They walked with outstretched neck,( craning neck, nose in air)
They had wanton eyes (seductive or sensual glances)
They were walking and mincing (prancing , short, dainty steps)
They made a jingling with there feet (Women wore costly ornamental chains connecting rings around their ankles for attention)
All very descriptive of their pride and wicked practices. The sin of pride can manifest itself in many different ways. Why had these women fallen into this sin?
