The Promise

As we look at our world, where we’ve been and where we’re at, what are your thoughts about it all?
What are your hopes?
What are your expectations?
As for me, while I wish things were different, in many ways I expected things to get to where they are!
Our Creator told us we would be in this situation
Matthew 24:3–8 NKJV
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
We were told that the world would come to a place where all around us there would be nothing but tension, deception, endless wars and threats of wars, food shortages (famines), Disease (pestilence), and disastrous natural occurences and weather (earthquakes).
When Jesus Christ came on the world scene however, He came with an announcement:
Mark 1:14–15 CSB
14 After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God: 15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
Jesus came announcing “The Good News of God”, the time has been completed, the wait was over, God’s Kingdom was not approaching.
When Jesus’ mother Mary was given the announcement that with her consent, she would be the woman to carry God’s Only Physically conceived Child, she was also told of His Destiny:
Luke 1:30–33 NKJV
30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
She was told that He would be The Son, The Offspring of The Highest God there is and that He would rule as King over all the world from His ancestor King David throne.
King David was a man from The Nation of Israel that loved The God of Israel, and in striving to live in right relationship to His God, although not perfect, God elevated him to the place of King because he had a caring heart for God’s Nation and Covenant People, Israel. At the same time, David sought to live by His God’s Laws, and David recognized His God as The True King.
In the context of this, God makes King David a promise that He will elevate one of his descendents to be King in his place one day, who will rule forever:
1 Chronicles 17:11–14 NKJV
11 And it shall be, when your days are fulfilled, when you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your seed after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. 13 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son; and I will not take My mercy away from him, as I took it from him who was before you. 14 And I will establish him in My house and in My kingdom forever; and his throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”
A few generations later, our Creator reminds King David’s descendents that His Promise is still good and that it is still yet to come, but we are given some additional details as well:
Isaiah 9:6–7 CSB
6 For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.
What type of leader do you want guiding us?
One who says one thing and does another?
One who lets people do whatever they want with no consequences even when others are hurt in the process?
I want a leader that will stand up for us, one who will do what is right and hold people accountable, even myself.
As you learn about Jesus’ earthly life, you see that He was such a Leader, one who helped people to be better, and yet held people accountable.
He healed broken hearts, broken lives, and He is still doing it today.
So in this Christmas season, as we learn and remember Who this Holiday is about, it is about our Creator, coming down on our level to show us what life is meant to be like, and yet to remind us that, while we are in the process of preparation and transformation, He has kept His Promise, and He Is going to keep His Promise.
The Promised King has come, but He Is preparing those who want to be ready for His return, for His coming Government and Kingdom over the whole earth.
You can get to know Him for yourself experientially by His Supernatural Presence, He Is inviting you to be a part, He Is inviting you to fulfill the purpose He created you for.
It starts with our turning to Him with all of our desire and minds, which is called repentance.
At this place of turning, we allow Him to deal with our inmost being, and allow Him to contrast our lives to His, and we begin the lifetime process of preparation and transformation.
