In this traditional season of gift giving, how many of you have someone in your life that is very difficult to get a gift for?
Maybe you just don’t know what it is that they want.
Maybe it seems like they have everything already.
I think we can sometimes feel this way about God.
He is the God of the Universe and can create anything He wants.
so.......
How can I possibly give anything to God?
But I want to.
There is one thing that God cannot have without your help.
YOU!
In God’s infinite & perfect love for us, He gave us the freedom & free-will to choose whether or not we would have relationship with Him.
Free-will is the greatest gift that God could give to us
I think it is the most terrifying gift that God could possibly give us - because I know what I’ve done with free-will in my life.
God knows that some people will choose Hell over having a personal relationship with Him.
God gave us free-will even though He knew full-well that some of us will NEVER choose to have a personal relationship with Him.
God wants to have a personal relationship with every person.
If you have not given your life to God through Jesus:
This is the best gift you could give to God - Yourself!
Once we have made a decision to have relationship with God through Jesus Christ, what can we possibly bring to give to Him?
What can we possibly bring to give to Him?
I’m so excited to preach the rest of this message to you because it hit me so strongly that:
The gifts that were brought to Jesus, as a baby, are gifts we can personally bring to Him today!
3 Gifts Brought to Jesus:
Gold
Frankincense
Myrrh
5 Properties of Frankincense & Myrrh:
1. Reduces swelling & gives pain relief
2. Eases stress and anxiety
3. Improves skin
4. Kills harmful bacteria
5. Promotes Restful Sleep
3 Noteworthy Properties of Gold:
1. Can be completely purified
2. A great conductor
heat & electricity = fire & power of God
3. Malleable & ductile
Our life can be like these gifts brought to Jesus.
What if we were able to bring to Jesus a life like Frankincense & Myrrh?
- A life that is healed, whole, peaceful, beautiful, & restful
Jesus wants this life for you & gave His life so you could have it.
What if we were able to bring to Jesus a life like gold?
- A life that is completely pure & holy, that contains and distributes the fire and power of God, and that continues to be able to be moldable teachable and changeable by God and His word?
Jesus wants this life for you & gave His life so you could have it.
Immediately, our mind & old nature wants to fight the possibility of living this quality of life because it is simply impossible.
This life is completely possible through the miracle of grace, God’s own ability, that He provides to us through Jesus.
Having, and living, this quality of life is a process
It’s not going to happen all at once, but it is going to happen.
The process begins with the decision to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ and it is maintained by consistently staying connected to Jesus through a fresh and daily decision to come to Him.
Just One Thing:
Daily let the process of God work in your life so you can experience & give your life of Frankincense, Gold, & Myrrh back to Him.
Discussion Questions:
What fashion trend makes you cringe or laugh every time you see it?
Give some thought to the significance of free-will & share some of your thoughts.
Please read Mark 10:27 and share some areas of your life that you have felt impossibilities, but where God is able to change those things.
How can you practically yield in a greater way to the process of God working in your life.
