Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Jesus came to give us salvation!
The 1st advent: The 1st coming of Jesus to earth in the form of a child.
The 2nd advent: The 2nd coming of Jesus to judge the world of sin, to establish his millennial kingdom, and for the end of human history.
Question:
Why celebrate Christmas if you haven’t received salvation, because the same one that you claim you celebrate is the same one that is going to judge you and send you to the lake of fire.
Salvation- welfare, prosperity, deliverance, salvation by God, primarily from external evils (Old Testament), but ideally salvation or deliverance from the guilt and pollution of sin.
Old Testament- the Israelites experienced deliverance on many different occasions. First, the Israelites were delivered from slavery out of Egypt. Secondly, throughout their history the Israelites had to be delivered from their enemies that would persecute them. I want to focus on the second idea for a minute. Why did Israel needed to be delivered over and over and over again? Because their sins put them in bondage, their sins caused them to go into captivity or their sins would cause the surrounding nations to give them external difficulties. The bible says that they would cry out to the LORD, they would stop whatever it was that they were doing (often times idolatry), call out to the LORD, and the LORD would hear them and would deliver them from their enemies.
This was a repetitive cycle that would happen throughout Israels history. One moment they would serve the LORD, the next minute they would serve and worship idols, one moment they would serve the LORD, then the LORD would send something to get their attention, they would repent for a moment.....then they would return back to living in sin. Man.....this sounds really familiar doesn’t it?
It was proven though out history than man could not save himself, that humanity (not just Israel) needed to be saved. The LORD commanded Israel to be holy, but they could not be holy. They made sacrifices year after year, but those sacrifices were not enough to make them holy. So then the scriptures says:
Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Jesus came as a babe, wrapped in swaddling clothing, lying in a manger. His purpose for coming into this world was to save us from our sins!
Jesus himself said:
For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
This is the first advent. Jesus comes first to save. But then the scriptures declares a second advent and this time when Jesus comes back, he’s not coming back as a babe the second time. The second time He’s coming back in the clouds, the Bible says every eye will see him!
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
And when Jesus comes back He’s coming back to judge the world!!!
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
And when Jesus comes the wrath of God is going to be poured out!
And if you don’t repent, if you don’t turn to God the scriptures say that you are storing up for yourself wrath!
But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.
If you are listening to this and you are not saved, if you are listening to this and you are out of the will of God, you need to know that you are not okay.......YOU NEED A SAVIOR YOU NEED TO BE SAVED AND JESUS CAME INTO THE WORLD TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS!!!
A person will not desire to be saved if they feel like they don’t need to be saved. But I need to explain to you what the scriptures says.
The scriptures says that you need to REPENT!
You may think “you know I’m living a good life, I try to do right and do right by others.” But the scriptures declare that it doesn’t matter how much good you try to do:
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Then the scriptures also say:
Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that heareth your words.
Then Paul writes in Romans 3:
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.
There are people today that mistakenly think that if I just live a good life, you know if I have more good days than bad then I’ll make it in! WRONG!!! There will be good people that are going to burn in the lake of fire! Watch this.....there will be people who have been baptized......burning in the lake of fire! Their will be prophets and those who have healed others burning in the lake of fire! Scripture:
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
So what do we do? We cry out to the LORD, we cry for mercy, we ask for forgiveness, we cry out to the LORD to save us!!! We REPENT!!!! WE NEED TO REPENT!!!! WE NEED TO REPENT!!!! WE NEED TO TURN TO JESUS, WE NEED TO REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL!!! WE NEED TO SURRENDER TO THE LORD!!!!
You need to know, that without Christ, without truly living for Christ, if you are not FULLY SURRENDERED TO CHRIST that you are wretched and undone and that you need a savior!
Listen, even us that are saved, we need to understand that even on our best day......we are wretched and undone and we need a savior! WE NEED JESUS!!! When we understand this fact, it will keep us humble at the feet of Jesus!
Salvation is not a one time deal, salvation is an ongoing process and truth be known we need to be saved EVERYDAY!!!! We need a savior, it is not in us to save ourselves, on our best day our righteousness is as filthy rags!
Pastor why are you so abrasive this morning, we should be celebrating Christmas.......well we are. But sometimes, you gotta get knocked over your head, you know with some people you can’t be nice because they will take you for a joke. Preachers, we need to get back to the point where we preach the gospel with soul stiring conviction, where we cry loud and spare not! Judgement is coming! The end is coming......it’s not time to be nice.....it’s time to tell people Repent or Die!
You need to be saved!!! Please understand this......WHEN YOU ARE TRULY SAVED.....THEN YOU WILL BARE FRUITS! Just because you are baptized doesn’t mean that you are saved. Just because you shout and speak in tongues.....doesn’t mean that you are saved! YOU HAVE TO BARE FRUIT OF YOUR SALVATION!
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
John the baptist told those whom he preached to at the Jordan river:
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
They heard John the Baptist preach repentance and water baptism and they were convicted. When they heard the preaching of repentance and turning from sin, they made up in their mind that they were going to repent and turn from sin. John says, if you have truly repented show it by being baptized! If you have truly repented it should show up in your living!
Main Point:
The Lord Jesus Christ didn’t come to this world to be your own personal genie in a bottle! Jesus Christ didn’t come into this world to just help you and deliver you from your external evils, He didn’t come to deliver you from hardships and tragic things that may happen in your life! Jesus Christ came to do something much greater than deliver us from hardship, He came to do something much greater than to grant us our every wish and desire. Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins! Jesus Christ came to save us from damnation and the wrath that is to come! Jesus Christ came to save us from the Lake of Fire, He came to give us true life, He came to deliver us from the guilt, the shame, and the bondage of sin......JESUS CAME TO SAVE!!!
We’re not here to celebrate the gift that under the tree, we are not here, to celebrate the good food and family feasts that we are going to have this weekend. No, this morning, all this week we should celebrate the fact that Jesus came to liberate us! Jesus came to eradicate the chains of sin that has bound mankind since the inception of humanity! Jesus came to heal, he came to deliver, he came to set free!
If you want to be saved believe the gospel and repent of your sins! Receive water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and be filled with the Holy Ghost!
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
