Opening ILLUST

Read Luke 2 account of Simeon, Luke 2:25-33 - Describe the encounter, 40 days dedication - SIMEON KNOWS
Simeon knows what has been promised, no doubt, and
Isaiah knows that God has a plan, and it would be fulfilled
Isaiah 46:10 NASB95
Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’;
Paul knows that God has a plan, and it would be fulfilled
Romans 15:4 NASB95
For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
God’s plan provides HOPE!
And God did not leave His people, or us, in the dark - He promised, then fulfilled the promises - EVERY time
More than 100 OT prophecies fulfilled by Christ’s first coming.
Six are very specific to His birth.
ASIDE - no other so-called religious leader was foretold or prophesied about
Not Muhammed (Islam), not Charles Russell (JW), Joseph Smith (Mormons), none but Jesus

Prophecies Specific to the Birth of the Messiah

1 - The seed of a woman
Genesis 3:15 NASB95
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
Specifically, “her” seed - not of man
Sin comes from man (Rom.3 and 5) - important to be fully human and yet not from man’s seed
Matthew 1:20 NASB95
But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
2 - Virgin Birth
Isaiah 7:14 NASB95
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
Luke 1: 26-35 fulfillment, specifically Luke 1: 35
Luke 1:35 NASB95
The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.
3 - His Name - Immanuel
“God with us”
Isaiah 7:14 NASB95
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
A sign of hope to Israel, partially fulfilled in Hezekiah
Matthew 1:22–23 NASB95
Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”
Matthew recalls this prophecy, and claims it for Messiah, and under inspiration of H.S.
“Remember when God said and did this? Well, now here comes Messiah!
4 - Bethlehem Birthplace
Micah 5:2 NASB95
“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”
Matthew 2:1 NASB95
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
5 - Slaughter of Innocents
Jeremiah 31:15 NASB95
Thus says the Lord, “A voice is heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; She refuses to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more.”
Matthew 2:16 NASB95
Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi.
6 - Flight to Egypt
Hosea 11:1 NASB95
When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.
Matthew 2:14 NASB95
So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt.
CLOSE
John 20:31 NASB95
but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
People say, “I didn’t do this for your good health, there is a purpose”
Well, actually, God DID give us His Word, His Son, for our good health, our good spiritual health!
That’s why God gave us His Word
That’s why God sent Jesus
So we could know Him, so we could have life in His name
He told us He would, and He did!
COMING AGAIN
He has also prophesied events yet to happen!
Eternal life for those who believe in Him, place their trust in God’s forgiveness
I know He keeps His promises, so far, He has kept every one!
Simeon knew that:
Luke 2:29–32 NASB95
“Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word; For my eyes have seen Your salvation, Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, A Light of revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.”
I KNOW THAT SALVATION - DO YOU?
I MEAN, I KNOW IT!
Jesus is the light to the world
John 8:12 NASB95
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
Merry Christmas! May you walk in that Light of Life, the Light of the world!
