OK, this morning we will be continuing our message from last Sunday, which was entitled, “Immanuel”.
Before we jump into the message though, I want to ask you some questions, like I did last week, in order to wake up your brains and get you primed and ready to hear the Word being read. AMEN?!
Before we jump into the message though, I want to ask you some questions, like I did last week, in order to wake up your brains and get you primed and ready to hear the Word being read. AMEN?!
And since we are speaking about the prophecy of Isaiah 9 and the birth of the Christ, I’m going to ask you some questions that pertain to His birth and see if you can tell fact from fiction.
And since we are speaking about the prophecy of Isaiah 9 and the birth of the Christ, I’m going to ask you some questions that pertain to His birth and see if you can tell fact from fiction.
Question number ONE: [Tell me what is wrong with this statement regarding what we call the Christmas story] “The ten wise men, bearing their gifts of silver, frankincense and myrrh, came from the west to see the newborn messiah. After seeing the Christ child, they had to return a different direction though , because they were warned in a dream not to return the same way because of the threat of Caesar Augustus.”
ANSWER: 1) Were there ten wise men? (We actually don’t know how many there were.) 2) The wise men brought gold, frankincense and myrrh, not silver. 3) The wise men, according to the Bible, travelled from the EAST, not the west. 4) Yeshua was not an infant by the time that the wise men found Him and beheld Him and presented their gifts to Joseph and Mary. He was more likely around the age of 3-4 by the time that they arrived to see Him! 5) It was not Caesar Augustus who was looking to kill the Christ child and who the wise men were warned to avoid on their return trip, but rather it was King Herod of Judaea.
Question Number TWO: What was significant about the gifts that the wise men brought to the Christ child?
ANSWER:
1) Gold was symbolic of Yeshua’s kingship. (This was shown even by the statement of the wise men when they stood before Herod. They said, Where is he that is born King of the Jews?) You didn’t just bring gold to anyone as as gift. Like someone showing up and saying, “Hey, we thought we’d bring you a baby gift. Here’s a box of gold!” No, gold was a gift presented to royalty....to kings! Like when the Queen of Sheba showed up to meet the great King Solomon, she brought gold, along with other gifts to present to him. In fact, it has estimated, that Solomon’s gold that he amassed, could have been worth around $90 TRILLION dollars in todays economy (not including all of the other precious metals and jewels that he had!) Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, has a current net worth of $207 billion, if that helps to put into perspective for you the wealth of King Solomon!
2) Frankincense, because it symbolized his priestly deity. In the book of Exodus, God outlined for Moses the use of frankincense as part of the sacred incense that was to be burned in the holy place of the temple. This precious and expensive tree resin, burned as a white smoke and was always going up before God from the temple. (This of course, symbolized the prayer of the saints rising up constantly before God!) Because of its heavy usage by the priests of God, this symbolized the deity and priestly role of Yeshua!
3) Myrrh, symbolized His death and burial. Myrrh, like frankincense, was a tree resin, that was costly. It was commonly used for medicinal purposes, along with purification uses, but even more importantly, myrrh was used as part of the embalming process. We see this very thing in John 19:39, where the Bible records that Nicodemus came to take the body of Jesus in order to bury Him, and he was carrying a mixture of myrrh and aloe (about 100#) to use on the Lord’s body. (One commentary on myrrh said that for myrrh to be cultivated it must be extracted by piercing the tree’s heartwood and allowing the gum to trickle out into bitter red droplets called tears. Much like the process, Jesus went through. It symbolizes the bitterness of pain he would have to face for our purification.) So, the myrrh symbolized the death and the burial of the Lord Yeshua!
Question number THREE: Is this statement true or false?: “Although you will find more detailed information in some places versus others, still all four of the gospel accounts of the New Testament record the birth of our Lord and Savior, Yeshua.”
ANSWER: FALSE......Only two of the four gospels record the birth of Yeshua, Matthew and Luke. Marc and John start off with the adult Yeshua and His beginning His earthly ministry.
OK, so as we head into the continuation from last week’s message, I wanted to give you a couple of more examples this morning about the miracle of the fulfillment of the prophecies that pertained to the Messiah.
OK, so as we head into the continuation from last week’s message, I wanted to give you a couple of more examples this morning about the miracle of the fulfillment of the prophecies that pertained to the Messiah.
Last week, I gave you a couple and this morning I want to give you a couple of more, because, as followers of Yeshua, we should, DAILY, stand in awe of the miracle that is the first advent, (the first coming), of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ! Amen?!
Last week, I gave you a couple and this morning I want to give you a couple of more, because, as followers of Yeshua, we should, DAILY, stand in awe of the miracle that is the first advent, (the first coming), of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ! Amen?!
So, I shared with you last week about the odds of someone fulfilling just 8 prophecies that pertained to their life. Well, let me give another right now.
So, I shared with you last week about the odds of someone fulfilling just 8 prophecies that pertained to their life. Well, let me give another right now.
The odds of someone fulfilling just 8 prophecies that pertained to themselves would be 1 in 10^17 power. And according to the research that was done in part by Lee Strobel, the author of “The Case For Christ”, along with that of a prominent mathematician, those odds would look as follows.
Imagine the entire world being covered with little white tiles that were one-and-a-half inches square—covering every bit of dry land on the planet—with the bottom of just one tile painted red. Then picture a person being allowed to wander for a lifetime around all seven continents. He would be permitted to bend down only one time and pick up a piece of tile. What are the odds it would be the one tile whose reverse side was painted red? The odds would be the same as just eight of the Old Testament prophecies coming true in any one person throughout history!
I also shared with you last week, the odds of someone fulling just 48 prophecies that were given about themselves. And so, again, I will give you one more today.
I also shared with you last week, the odds of someone fulling just 48 prophecies that were given about themselves. And so, again, I will give you one more today.
According to the mathematician, Peter Stoner, the odds of a person being able to fulfill just 48 of the prophecies about their life, like Jesus fulfilled about His life would be the odds of 1 in 10^157th power.
That would look like the following.
Imagine taking 10^157 power of electrons, (electrons, mind you, are so small that they are about 100 million times smaller than an atom), and pressing them into a solid ball. That ball, made entirely of electrons, would be big enough to fill this building and then a little bigger.
That ball would be bigger than our city or our county.
In fact, it would be bigger than our state!
But that still doesn’t capture its magnitude.
That ball made up of electrons would be bigger than our continent and still bigger.
It would be bigger than all seven continents on our globe put together and still, even bigger than our planet itself!
And if that’s not mind blowing enough for you, that ball would be larger than our milky way galaxy.
But wait, it’s still larger!
That ball, made up entirely of some of the smallest particles known to man, would be larger than our entire known UNIVERSE!
And like I said last week, that would be for someone being able to fulfill just 48 prophecies made about themselves.
Yeshua fulfilled over 300 prophecies pertaining to His life and His ministry and folks...........He’s not done yet!
Last week we read from the prophet Isaiah and his very familiar prophecy that was given some 700 years before it took place. This prophecy is recorded for us in Isaiah 9:1-7.

Isaiah 9:1–7 (ESV)
1 But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
3 You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian.
5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Now, I mentioned to everyone last week, that chapters 7-12 of Isaiah’s Old Testament book, are referred to by many as the “The Book of Immanuel”.
This is due to the detailed prophecies that were recorded about the birth and the coming work of the long awaited Messiah for the nation of Israel and ultimately for the entire world!
Isaiah 7:14 tells us of the miracle of how our Lord would be born, as it says,
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Yeshua was to be born of a virgin. And that fulfillment was recorded for us in Lukes gospel account of the birth of our Lord and Savior Yeshua.
And in Isaiah chapter 11, we read of how the Messiah will be anointed in and walk with the authority and power of Holy Spirit.
Th coming Messiah would rise up from the stump and the roots of the Davidic line and grow into a powerful Branch who would rule and reign and judge the earth and the nations by the “rod of His mouth and with the breath of His lips”.
This will be seen at His second advent, His second coming, when He returns to rule on the earth for 1,000 years.
During His millennial reign, Isaiah tells us that there will be harmony and and peace between ALL of creation.
He shows us this in details from chapter 11 such as the fact that:
The wolf will dwell with the lamb
The leopard will lie down with the young goat
The calf and the young lion will dwell together
And a little child shall lead them
The lion will eat straw like an ox, vs eating the other animals.
Children of all ages will sit beside cobra holes and put their hands into viper’s dens and no harm will come to any of them.
Isaiah tells us that it will be this way, because the whole earth will be “full of the knowledge of the Lord!”
In other words, all of creation will know of the peace and the sovereign reign and rule of the Messiah when He comes back to establish His earthly rule!
And in chapter 12, we see the nation of Israel being restored and taking back from all oppression due to the judgement that God had imposed upon them for their rebellion against Him.
And the people will cry out in that day and say, “God is my salvation”!
When the people are crying out, “God is my salvation”, what are they ultimately really saying?
In other words, there is a name that means that very thing, that “God is my salvation”.
That name is none other than, YESHUA, Jesus the Christ!
From now on, whenever you are reading certain Old Testament scriptures that mention the word, “salvation”, remember that in Hebrew, the word used for salvation would have actually been the very name of “Yeshua”!
Passages like Psalms 14:7 would thus read,
Psalm 14:7 (ESV)
7 Oh, that “Yeshua” (salvation) for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
Or again in Psalm 40:16,
Psalm 40:16 (ESV)
16 But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your “Yeshua” say continually, “Great is the Lord!”
When they were saying and writing about God’s “salvation” in the Old Testament period, they were saying and pronouncing the Messiah’s name and didn’t even realize it!
They were using His name, but didn’t truly see, or know who and what He was and what He would become to them.
Sadly enough, there are countless numbers today, who do the same.
They say His precious name and use it frequently, but even now, after His first coming, and they still do not see Him and know Him for who and what He really is.
He was and is today the very thing that the prophet Isaiah said that He would be, in verse 2 of our passage that we read from........He is a “great light” that shines into the deep darkness!
In continuation of this prophetic statement, John writes for us the following declaration in the opening of His gospel account.
He says in John 1:4-5, 9,
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
The “Light of the World”, is the name that Yeshua declared of Himself in John 8.
And to all who know Him and believe in Him, they love that name and that great light that shines in their life!
But, as Isaiah mentions in His prophecy, there are other names, other titles that He carries and that we must embrace and understand.
Those other names/titles carry the meaning of His coming to this earth all those years ago and they are becoming more meaningful the closer that we get to His return!
So, let’s take a look at those other names that were given to our Lord and Savior, some 2,700 years ago in the writings of the prophet Isaiah.

Isaiah 9:6 that we just read, says,
Isaiah 9:6 that we just read, says,
6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
“For unto us a child is born”, this part of the passage underlines the humanity of the Christ child, as He would come into the world through the process of natural child birth and thus live a natural human life, so as to face the trials and temptations that all humanity would face.

And yet, as Hebrews 4:15 tells us, He did so and sinned not!
And yet, as Hebrews 4:15 tells us, He did so and sinned not!
“Unto us a Son is given”, shows to us the deity of the Christ child. He was not just a “a son” that was given to humanity, but rather, He was “THE SON”, the Son of God, who was given as a gift to whole world, because of the supreme love of God the Father for you and I!

“And the government will be upon His shoulder”, is a declaration to His sovereignty and Lordship. As the Messiah, He will both rule over the nation of Israel, as Micah 5:2 tells, but He will also have rule and dominion over the whole world, as we find in Zechariah 14:9.

“And His name will be called, WONDERFUL COUNSELOR!”
In the day and time in which we live in this nation and all around the world, now more than ever, people are anxious, fearful, worried and depressed. They spend large amounts of time and money seeking out someone that they can speak to; someone with whom they can share their woes and receive advice as to how they are to handle their live’s miseries and their feelings of hopelessness and despair! As a nation, we spend in excess of $225 BILLION per year on these counseling services!

When people look for a psychiatrist, or a psychologist, or a counselor, they begin to search for the titles and accolades that go with that person’s name, that offer them some sense of assurance that this person will be able to help! The more initials and abbreviations that go along with that person’s name, and the more titles attached to their name, the more confident they are that this, or that person will be able to help them and give them wise counsel.

And yet, there is ONE whom the majority fail to turn to for help. There is ONE who has ever existed……who has never failed anyone who has truly ever turned to Him for help!

His name is Yeshua and He carries the titles and accolades that are unmatched in heaven and on earth!
If you are looking for someone to turn to, who can help you out with your life’s woes, consider His credentials:
He is called the King of Kings and Lord of Lords
He is the Creator of everything in all of heaven and earth!
He is the Son of God
He is the head of the largest organization in the world…..The Church!
He is called a Teacher, a Prophet, a High Priest, an Advocate, a Mediator and a Judge!
He has never lost a case on trial and He has never failed a client who entrusted themselves to His care!
And He and He alone, is called and deserves to be called, the WONDERFUL COUNSELOR in all of the world!
That title, “Wonderful” is not used in the sense that we use it in our everyday language.
In the Hebrew, it means something more along the lines of (EXCEPTIONAL, DISTINGUISHED, INCOMPREHENSIBLE and SUPERNATURAL)!
No other “counselor” that has ever existed, will even come close to the unmatched wisdom and love and concern for those all who come to Him.
When Yeshua walked this earth, He spoke to the people in ways that no one could even fathom. Even His enemies said of Him, “Never did a man speak the way that this man speaks!” -( John 7:46)
He, unlike every other human, knows the heart of a person and offers His wise counsel based upon their true need and upon the true intentions of their heart!
If you are broken and hurting inside, then come to the WONDERFUL COUNSELOR and give everything to Him. He loves you and cares for you and He alone can truly help you and heal your heart and soul and mind!
Isaiah 28:29 says this of the Lord,
29 This also comes from the Lord of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom.
Dear friend, can you say today that for your own life, Yeshua is your “Wonderful Counselor”?
Dear friend, can you say today that for your own life, Yeshua is your “Wonderful Counselor”?
He is called by the prophet, the “Mighty God”. He is not a mere person employing the “might of God”, as say the judge Samson did. No, the Messiah, Immanuel, would come to this earth as the “Mighty God”, because He was the Lord God, incarnate!

John 1:1, 14 tells us,
John 1:1, 14 tells us,
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
And again in Colossians 2:9, we find,
9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,
And in John 10:30, the Lord Jesus said of Himself,
30 I and the Father are one.”
No human man could ever rule the nations with authority and grace and true love and with all power.
History has already proven that because we are sinful and wicked at heart, we can never truly rule others in grace and truth.
Just look at mankind right now!
Only God can do this. And that is exactly what the Messiah will be on earth: the reigning and ruling, “Mighty God”..........”FULL OF GRACE AND TRUTH!”
Jeshua is called the “Everlasting Father” in verse 6 of our passage.
Jeshua is called the “Everlasting Father” in verse 6 of our passage.
This phrase literally means, “The Father of Eternity”. And in saying this, Isaiah was not assigning the name and title of God the Father, specifically to Yeshua, the Son. No, he was ascribing to the Messiah the attributes, the characteristics of the Father.

Isaiah clearly referred to Yahweh, the one true God, as the one who inhabits eternity, as we find in Isaiah 57:15, where he says of God,

Isaiah 57:15 (ESV)
15 For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy.....”
And again in Isaiah 43:13,
13 “From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done.”
Isaiah clearly shows us that God is eternal and in saying this, he is showing us that the Messiah, will have characteristics of the Father of Eternity.
As Yeshua said that He and the Father are one and that if you have seen Him (Yeshua), then you have seen the Father as well, He was showing that they are together in the union of the Holy Trinity.
They are each one unique in their position and role, but they still exist as God, in the trinity!
Yeshua came as God incarnate and thus, He perfectly represents the Father to us. There was and is no better way for the Father to show Himself to humanity, than through that of His own self and His own Son!
And this position and this role of His, both as Himself and through His Son, will continue for all eternity to those who love Him and truly serve Him.
He is eternal........no beginning and no end.....He is the Everlasting Father!
As Charles Spurgeon said, when speaking of the “Everlasting Father” and our position with Him, “There is no unfathering Christ, and there is no unchilding us. He is everlastingly a father to those who trust in him.”
The last title given of the Messiah in our passage of Isaiah, is one of the most beautiful names given.......He is the, “Prince of Peace”!

The Hebrew word for “prince”, is the word, “sar”, and it refers to, (head person, chief (captain), general, governor, keeper, lord, master, prince, ruler, steward.) In other words, one is control and oversees something or someone(s).

That is who and what Yeshua, our Messiah is! Through Him and Him alone, do we find shalom with God and shalom in our lives.
That is who and what Yeshua, our Messiah is! Through Him and Him alone, do we find shalom with God and shalom in our lives.
Yeshua offers peace from God, as Romans 1:7 tells us.
In Romans 5:1 ,we see that He brings peace between us and God, as Paul says, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
And again in Philippians 4:7, Paul tells us, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Yeshua is the master, the captain, the guardian, the “Prince of Peace” to all who truly come to Him for salvation and deliverance from their sin!
Yeshua is the master, the captain, the guardian, the “Prince of Peace” to all who truly come to Him for salvation and deliverance from their sin!
This was He who the angels declared to the shepherds had come to earth, in Luke 2:14, where we read,
This was He who the angels declared to the shepherds had come to earth, in Luke 2:14, where we read,
14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
And please pay attention to the end of that verse, because everything hinges on its meaning.
The verse is not declaring that peace on earth has come to all!
This verse first, gives glory to God in heaven, to whom all glory belongs, and then it says that to those who are below, on the earth, that there is peace for them and in them, if He is pleased with them!
Well, who is it that He is pleased with then? Psalm 147:11 says it this way,
11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.
Yeshua brought the fulfillment of this, because in Jesus lies the hope of glory and in Jesus we find our blessed hope and thus our peace with God and our peace from God!
We must yield our lives to Him and empty ourselves of ourselves, so that He can fill us with Himself and thus the shalom, the (wellness, happiness, friendliness and health and prosperity and peace) that can only come from God the Father, through God the Son, the “Prince of Peace”!
F.B. Meyer said, “As we pour out our bitterness, God pours in his peace.”
In other words, as we empty the junk of this world and of the enemy out of ourselves, we make room for God to fill us back up with His peace!
And the greatest assurance to you and I, as believers in the Messiah, is found in verse 7 of our passage, where it reads, “Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.”
And the greatest assurance to you and I, as believers in the Messiah, is found in verse 7 of our passage, where it reads, “Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.”
That is, His reign as Lord and the shalom that we receive from Him, will never end to all who know Him as Lord and Savior of their lives!
We see this same guarantee throughout the scriptures in perfect harmony, as in the prophecy of Daniel 7:14, which says, “His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed”.
We see this same guarantee throughout the scriptures in perfect harmony, as in the prophecy of Daniel 7:14, which says, “His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed”.
And again in Luke 1:33, where the angel Gabriel told Mary that the Messiah’s reign will be forever. And finally, in the closing of the Bible in Revelation 11:15, we are guaranteed by the Lord that, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”

“To us a child is born, to us a Son is given”. “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel”!
The Christ has come and dwelt amongst us in His first advent and the majority did not recognize Him. We are now awaiting His second advent, His second coming and the question that I will ask you is this, “Are you looking for and longing for His coming and will you be ready when He comes again?”
