Matthew presents Jesus to us as the King of the Jews, Luke demonstrates to us that He was the Savior of Mankind, but most importantly John's gospel tells us from the very beginning that Jesus was God in the flesh!
Proposition: Jesus’ birth was special because He was born God in the flesh!
Interrogative: How can we know this for sure?
TS: To prove this to us, John focuses on and presents the deity of Jesus Christ for us in 3 ways. When we speak of the deity of Jesus Christ we are saying the Jesus Christ was more than just a man, He was God incarnate! John shows that Jesus was and is God because He was:

Eternal with God 1-2

Jesus Christ had no beginning, and praise God He has no ending!
Isaiah 7:14 tells us that that baby carried in Mary’s womb was to be called “Immanuel” which means “God with us”
Micah 5:2 which tells us where the Savior was to be born describes Him as being “...from old, from everlasting”
There has never been a time when Jesus Christ did not exist
Jesus' birth in Bethlehem wasn't His beginning, but rather His incarnation!
John 1:14 tells us that the “Word was made flesh and dwelt among us”
He chose to leave the splendor of Heaven and to be made in the likeness of man so that He could redeem us from sin's penalty
· He was at His birth 100 % God and 100% m
· He is today seated at the Father's right hand and is still 100% God and 100% man
Jesus Christ is God and Jesus Christ is eternal!
THE WONDER OF WONDERS AS SHE LOOKED DOWN AND SMILED, THAT HE WAS HER MAKER AS WELL AS HER CHILD. HE CREATED THE WOMB THAT HAD GIVEN HIM BIRTH. HE WAS GOD INCARNATE CAME DOWN TO EARTH.
Not only does John demonstrate to us that Jesus was God because of His Eternality, but he also demonstrates He was…

Creator of all things 3-4

He created all that is and all that ever will be
We are not a race that appeared by chance random processes as science text books suggest, but we are the result of special creation and Jesus is our Creator
He created the world and He created Life according to verse 4
Look at the sad statement in verse 11...
1st own = neuter – things
2nd own = masculine – people
Look at the glorious promise of verse 12!
John shows us that Jesus was special from His birth because He was eternal with God, because He was the Creator of all things, and lastly because…

He was and is Light v. 5;9-10

Light is often used as being symbolic of the holiness of God
1 John 1:5
Light serves 1 important purpose in the universe: To reveal what is hidden in darkness
Jesus came into this sin-darkened world to reveal mankind's sinfulness
He came into this world to light the way of salvation to as many as would trust Him for forgiveness of sin.
By and large in Jesus' day men rejected His Light, and by and large men and women today are guilty of the same thing
Jesus Christ is God!
See the sin of Adam and Eve wasn't against themselves, if it were then their actions could've repaired the breech.
Their sin was against God and for that reason they could never have repaired the damage their disobedience had created.
God was wronged and therefore God was due.
Since man owed a penalty which he couldn't repay, God paid it Himself when He took on flesh in the person of His Son and came to this earth and lived a sinless life and died a sinless death for crimes He didn't commit, to pay a price He didn't owe!
God was wronged, God was due, and so only God could pay the price for our sin! What a God! What a privilege to serve Him today!
Is He your God? Is Jesus Christ your Savior? He wants to be.
Conclusion: Jesus Christ was the most important child ever born because Jesus Christ was King of the Jews, He was and is the Savior of mankind, and, most importantly, He was and is God.
It’s easy to get caught up in this time of year on the joy and fun of Christmas, but I challenge you as this season ends to focus your attention on the reason for Christmas: Jesus Christ.
What better way to conclude a message such as this than by sharing the gospel?
You see, the purpose of Jesus wasn't simply to be born a man, though HE couldn't have accomplished His mission without becoming man. His purpose in being born, in becoming man, was so that He might pay the debt which mankind owed to God for their sin. That's what His birth signifies and that mission was accomplished when He went to that cross some 2000 years ago.
There on Calvary so many years ago, God’s sinless Lamb was nailed to your cross. There on that hill suspended between heaven and earth, the Son of God took your punishment, paid your cost, died in your place.
There just outside of Jerusalem God intervened on your behalf, dying you that you could live, was buried so that no grave could hold you, and three days later, He rose again to prove that His sacrifice was all that was needed for you to be saved.
Let's bow our heads as we listen to some music playing softly. I don’t know you heart, but you do and God does, and I wonder if you're here and you know that you know that you're saved I wonder would you raise that hand and wave it at God thanking Him for His salvation?
Maybe you couldn't raise your hand b/c you're not sure about your salvation, I wonder would you like to know Jesus as your Savior today? If you would I ask you to raise your hand so that I can pray for you and I'll ask you to come forward so that someone can show you how to trust Him today.
