Introduction

Luke 1:46–55 KJV 1900
46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. 48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: For, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; And holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is on them that fear him From generation to generation. 51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, And exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; And the rich he hath sent empty away. 54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, In remembrance of his mercy; 55 As he spake to our fathers, To Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

Body

Cliches
Talking about the “commercialization of Christmas”
Jesus wasn’t born on Dec 25th anyway
This is simply a pagan holiday repurposed and given Christian trappings
No one has a problem commercializing every other day of the year
Reminding everyone that “Jesus is the reason for the season”
No one wants to remember that Jesus is the reason for EVERY season!
Jesus is the reason for every day - every week - every month - every year
Miracles
We’ve made the word kind of like ‘love’.
“It’ll be a miracle if we don’t hit any red lights on the way to work.”
“If we hear one nugget of truth on the news tonight, that’d be a miracle.”
There are a lot things and events in our lives that are rightly classified as miracles
However, this is by far the greatest miracle to have ever happened in creation.
Detail the fall in the garden, and God’s subsequent plan of salvation from then until now
Note what a miracle it is for God to dwell with mankind
[Expound on the magnificat]
Mary’s situation
Joseph’s situation
Despite that, Mary praises God
Calls this a blessing
Declares that God brings low the proud and exalts the humble in spirit
That there is no respecter of persons with God
That God is altogether holy and just and righteous
She declares that God will help those who depend on, and trust in Him
God will turn away empty handed those who will not acknowledge their need
Revelation 3:17–19 KJV 1900
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
She declares God’s faithfulness to His covenant people

Conclusion

We worship God for who He is, and for the great things He’s done
