How did we come to give gifts on Christmas?
So much of this day has to do with receiving a gift.
We often think of the Son but He was sent by the Father.
a huge gift comes to you by his poverty.
Paul puts it like this in 2 Corinthians 8:9

9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
Then there’s the simple, short, spectacular exultation of 2 Corinthians 9:15:

15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
The ultimate gift is God.
God gives God, like it says in
1 Peter 3:18 (KJV 1900)
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
How would we ever give to God?
Creator of all things
came to serve and not be served
A woman found a way and it was not giving to purchase anything.
It was overflow of affection and thankfulness for her forgiveness.
How should we give to others?
It should be from our overflow of joy that comes from knowing what we have received from God.

2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
Our giving unto one one another can be pleasing to God.
Conclusion
I know it is already pretty close to Christmas.
You probably want to mark people off your list and not add to them.
But maybe tonight if the overflow of your life might lead you to giving a gift to minister joy to someone.
Maybe you consider giving to a cause in the amount of your largest gift.
