Ephesians 1:3 NKJV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
First and formost we need to know how blessed we are,
It is not what we posses that informs us that we are blessed, it is not what we see that informs us that we are blessed, it is what the scripture says.
We judge our blessing by what we possess, if we lack something then we feel we are not blessed.
We are blessed in so many ways that we don’t even realise it
I want to bring to your notice somethings that you have that you might not be aware that is a blessing from God or you are aware but understimate magnitude of that blessing.
Psalm 32:1–2 NKJV
1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.
Impute defination:- represent (something, especially something undesirable) as being done or possessed by someone; attribute.
We are blessed because our transgression is covered, the Lord will not impute iniquity to us.
Imagine you go to your bank to pay the morgage and the bank teller tells you that your morgage is completely paid and you dont owe anything.
We must rejoice over the blessing of the covering of the blood of Jesus on our trasngression.
Ballak and balaam
Numbers 23:13–24 (NKJV)
13 Then Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place from which you may see them; you shall see only the outer part of them, and shall not see them all; curse them for me from there.”
14 So he brought him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
15 And he said to Balak, “Stand here by your burnt offering while I meet the Lord over there.”
16 Then the Lord met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, “Go back to Balak, and thus you shall speak.”
17 So he came to him, and there he was, standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab were with him. And Balak said to him, “What has the Lord spoken?”
18 Then he took up his oracle and said: “Rise up, Balak, and hear! Listen to me, son of Zippor!
19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
20 Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.
21 “He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God is with him, And the shout of a King is among them.
22 God brings them out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox.
23 “For there is no sorcery against Jacob, Nor any divination against Israel. It now must be said of Jacob And of Israel, ‘Oh, what God has done!’
24 Look, a people rises like a lioness, And lifts itself up like a lion; It shall not lie down until it devours the prey, And drinks the blood of the slain.”
Why did Balaam say that God has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has he seen wickednees in sirael
It is not because there was no wickendess or iniquity is Israel, but because it was covered by God. Hence there was nothing the enemy could find againts God’s people to bring about a curse upon them.
We cannot be cursed because we are blessed
Numbers 22:12 NKJV
12 And God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”
Balaam at first was told not to curse the people because they were blessed.
In his first prophecy he said thus;
Numbers 23:8 NKJV
8 “How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how shall I denounce whom the Lord has not denounced?
Galatians 3:13 NKJV
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),
2. We are blessed because we have been chosen to approach God and dwell in his house
Psalm 65:4 NKJV
4 Blessed is the man You choose, And cause to approach You, That he may dwell in Your courts. We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Of Your holy temple.
Out of all the people he could have chosen God chose us and caused us to approach him. We found favor in his eyes.
Psalm 84:4 NKJV
4 Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; They will still be praising You. Selah
Psalm 84:10 NKJV
10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
3. We are blessed because we are receiving instruction and teaching out of God’s law
Psalm 94:12–13 NKJV
12 Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O Lord, And teach out of Your law, 13 That You may give him rest from the days of adversity, Until the pit is dug for the wicked.
We are blessed because we are being instructed and taught from God’s book.
God reveals to us his ways, the mysteries of the Kingdom of God and his laws
God’s blessing was upon Israel when he revealed to them his judgements and laws
Psalm 147:19–20 NKJV
19 He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and His judgments to Israel. 20 He has not dealt thus with any nation; And as for His judgments, they have not known them. Praise the Lord!
Deuteronomy 4:6–8 (NKJV)
6 Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’
7 “For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?
8 And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day?
Just like the people of Israel God is teaching us his ways and his judgements.
He is feeding us with the heavenly manna, his word.
“For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?
Because God is near to us he always has a word for us and answers us when we call him.
Not alot of people can have question in the heart on Saturday and come on Sunday and get an answer from God.
Let me go through the beattitudes quickly
Matthew 5:3 (NKJV)
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
When God found us we were poor in Spirit.
The entrance in the kingdom of God is based on how rich you are in the spirit. if you are rich in good works you will inherit the kingdom is the theology of all other religions.
The enters to the Kingdom of Heaven is not based on being rich in good works, rich in the spirit but rather on what Christ did for us on calvary.
Those who are poor in spirit have the naturaly propensity to be humble which is key to receving the Kingdom of God.
So those who are poor in Spirit are more likely to enter the Kindgom more than those who are rich in spirit.
Matthew 21:31–32 (NKJV)
31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.
32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.
Those people who have been in false religion, and have invested so much into it, are those who find it difficult to receive the kingdom of God when it is preached.
They don’t see how poor they are, they think they are rightheous.
Matthew 5:4 (NKJV)
4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
Mourn and weep after the things of the kingdom, for the things of zion.
When you find yourself weeeping for the things of the Kingdom of God, for the sake of zion. Remember you are blessed.
This is because there is a work that your weeping is doing, your tears is doing
Isaiah 61:1–4 (NKJV)
1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
4 And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations.
You are the planting of the lord, the trees of rigtheousness that he may be glorified.
Through your tears and travail God will rebuild the ruin places, he will raise up what was desolate, he repair the ruined cities and the desolation of many generation.
Isaiah 66:9–14 NKJV
9 Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?” says the Lord. “Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?” says your God. 10 “Rejoice with Jerusalem, And be glad with her, all you who love her; Rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn for her; 11 That you may feed and be satisfied With the consolation of her bosom, That you may drink deeply and be delighted With the abundance of her glory.” 12 For thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, And the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream. Then you shall feed; On her sides shall you be carried, And be dandled on her knees. 13 As one whom his mother comforts, So I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” 14 When you see this, your heart shall rejoice, And your bones shall flourish like grass; The hand of the Lord shall be known to His servants, And His indignation to His enemies.
We are blessed because we are not weeping about meaningless things
We are not wasting our tears on ourselves and what we lack but on Zion and what she lacks.
Wea are not weeping for what God has not done for us but what God has not done for Zion.
We will partake of the fruit of our tears, and be comforted together with Zion.
Matthew 5:5 (NKJV)
5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Meek means yeilding or submissive
Matthew 11:29 (KJV 1900)
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
We are blessed because we yield ourselves to God.
God has enabled us to submit ourselves to his will.
It is trhough the blessing of God that we are able to yeild ourselves to the will of God
Moses and Pharoah
One was meek, submissive to the will of God. The other was rebelious.
The one the blessing of God was upon him, the other it was not.
Romans 9:15–18 (NKJV)
15 For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.
16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.
17 For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.”
18 Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.
It is because of the blessing of the mercy of God we find ouselves submitting, yeilding to the things of God. We ought to praise God for that.
We were made vessels of mercy when we could have been vessels of wrath.,
Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Do you find yourselvs thirsting after the things of God.
Do you find yoursleves thristing, can’t stop thinking about the things of the kingdom.
Do you find yourselves unsatisfide because of what you lack in the spirit. This unsatifaction is a sign that you are blessed because is a result of you hungering and thristing after the kingdom of God.
Matthew 5:7 (NKJV)
7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
when you are bale to forgive people, be merciful to be people, you are blessed. Because it is because of the blessing of God that your are merciful and you will reap mercy.
How is it that Stephen could interced and beg mercy for those who are stoning him. The blessing of God was upon him, the spirit of mercy was working in his life.
In the last days the spirit that will be working the lives of people will be an unmerciful spirit
Romans 1:31 “31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;”
The spirit that will be at work in the Church is the spirit of mercy and forgiveness.
God blesses you for something he has enabled you to do.
So if you find yourself being merciful, you are blessed and you will reap mercy,
Matthew 5:8 “8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.”
Those who do things with pure motives, with pure mind
2 Timothy 2:22 NKJV
22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Are you calling on the lord with a pure heart
1 Timothy 1:5 “5 Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,”
Are you keeping the commandment out fo love for God from a pure heart. Then you are blessed. You will see God.
Examples
THere were those who called on Jesus and followed him because of what he had given them, food.
There were those who called on Jesus because they thought since he was famous they could ride along and be famous with him.
They were those who called on Jesus because they taught that they could use him to get rich.
They were those who called on him and followed him because they knew he had the words of eternal life and outside of him there was no life, no wehere to go.
Matthew 5:9 NKJV
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
The peace makers are those who bring peace between God and man
When we proclaim the Gospel we are proclaiming peace
Isaiah 52:7 NKJV
7 How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
We are ambassadors of Christ proclaiming peace and reconciling people unto God.
2 Corinthians 5:19–21 (NKJV)
19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
We are pleading with people to be reconciled with God.
When they come and obey the Gospel and a reconciled to God, We are peacemakers, we will be called the son of God.
The Son of God came to reconcile , therefore all those who do the work of reconciliation will be called the sons of God.
Matthew 5:10–11 NKJV
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
Are you finding yourslelf being persecuted, being made fun off and insulted.
Are you findning yourslef being isolated from those who are close to you, form your friends and family because of what you believe.
Then you are blessed
1 Peter 4:14 (NKJV)
14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.
