Discerning, Listening to the Voice of God
Someone has said, “Sow a thought, reap an action. Sow an action, reap a habit. Sow a habit, reap a life.” Note where this sequence begins—our thought life is the spring from which our actions flow. The heart (soul) is the seat of our mind, will, and emotions. It is here that the battle for purity is most often won or lost. That is why the writer of Proverbs said, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23). The battle is for the mind and thoughts, for our Enemy knows that if he gains a foothold here, the actions and life of an individual will soon follow
yet discerning and hearing the voice of GOD is to wage war in the mind It is here were the proverbeial writer establishes the Eye and Ear gate requires protection maintanance

Habakkuk 2:1–3
Five Keys to Hearing God’s Voice,
PROPHETIC DREAMS AND VISIONS. Hearing the voice of God is the birthright of the born-again (see John 10:27, 28; Acts 2:17, 18; Rev. 3:20). Like Habakkuk, we can take a posture before God that enables us to hear His voice.
1) Meet with the Lord regularly in a special place of prayer: “I will stand my watch.”
2) Look for God to speak to you in dreams and visions: I will “watch to see.”
3) Listen for the word of the Lord: “He will say to me.”
4) Keep a journal of things that God says: “Write the vision.”
5) Wait for God to bring it to pass: “It will surely come.”

Kingdom Dynamics:
1 Samuel 3:1–10 Leading Your Children to God, FAMILY. Scripture says that the Lord wants to pour out His Spirit on our children; therefore, we must help them learn to hear God’s voice and respond to His Spirit (Joel 2:28; Acts 2:39-41). This text demonstrates how Eli took steps with Samuel that each parent may employ, encouraging their child to respond to God’s voice. First, Eli helped Samuel identify what was happening and provided distinct direction on how to respond (1 Sam. 3:9). Later, Eli encouraged Samuel and affirmed what the Lord had spoken to him as they talked together (v. 18).

1 Samuel 15:24–30
* Growing in Godliness
Learning to see things and people the way God sees them is a vital step in our growth process. While people tend to place great value on outward appearance, let us note that God looks upon attitudes of the heart
1 Samuel 24:9–11
Seek God’s perspective in each situation you face. God’s wisdom and Word may dictate a different course of action than people, pressures, or circumstances would suggest.
k Cultivating Dynamic Devotion
Though Samuel grew up serving the Lord, his real influence came after knowing Him through a personal encounter.
3:1, 6, 7, 10
Personally encountering God is the key to knowing Him intimately. Listen for God’s voice. Know that He calls you by name. Respond, as Samuel did, with an open and receptive heart, willing to obey.
