Luke 2.

This song has been wonderful and touching since it came out.
The idea of asking Mary what she knew and recognized in those early moments is both clever and moving.
There are, however, a few things that she did know already.
While she couldn’t have known that He would walk on water, she did know that He was born to be the savior.
There is no way she could have known the specific miracles that He would perform like, healing a blind man, calming a storm or healing the deaf.
however, she knew He could perform miracles, as she is the one who asked Him to perform His first miracle.
Luke 2:26-38

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”

38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

The angel shares with Mary where He is coming from
He tells her that He will rule the nations
She knows that He is God’s son!
She also sees and hears things later that reveal even more truth, but that is after the birth and I believe these questions are more for that night.
so what did mary know?
Mary knew a lot.
but in the moment, what did mary truly recognize?
we have no idea
what is the point here?
If you are here, or if you are watching online, I’m sure you know, or have at least heard these things about this man called Jesus
the question is, tonight, what do you recognize.
Do you recognize Him as the divine Lord and savior that He is?
That is what we do all of this Christmas stuff for, is to celebrate Him.
but in our celebrations, do we recognize Him
Mary knew a lot, whether she recognized it that night or not, I don’t know.
but she recognized in her life enough to become a follower of His
have you done the same?
He calls for you and waits for you.
recognize that he is
Powerful, savior, healer, life giver, Heavenly, Divine, God, Ruler and Lord of all!
Pray
announce about candles and song
dismissal will be directly after the song.
