Intro and Tension

Nate - Pool Party - Jumped on a Shark - Treva, from what i’ve told, jumped in after him and saved him | He didn’t know he needed saving.
It’s Christmas | Celebrate the birth of Christ | I think, sometimes, we can forget, why Christ Came.
God decided to tell the Shepards first and this is what he said;
Luke 2:10–11 ESV
And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
A savior - The bible says that we need a saviour, but why? Why do we need saving? I want to look at:
Our need for a saviour
What Jesus did
What it means for us?
Tipping Grand Final
This was written, 700 years before it happened.
Isaiah 53:6 ESV
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Not a compliment | Not LIONS - or even DOGS - you can train Dogs, you can’t train Sheep | Sheep sit | It’s in us, to be lead astray | its in us to do our own thing | Covid = Everyone has a narrative, story - Their own way.
We are stranded sheep - It’s in us to be stranded, but God saw our Mess |
See every religion has a ladder system | God chose to climb down, become flesh, become a person, to take on our debt, our sin.
See when Jesus came, it wasn’t the religious that He told | People like you and me | In fact Shephards | He was born humbly into a messy world - so those that was walking in darkness could have light.
Mark 2:17 ESV
And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
See, Jesus came to give relationship - Not Religion. In fact, he crossed Religious lines to bring people in.
A story -
There was a Man being carried out in NAIN | Dead | **Context** in those days open Casket | Mum was with him;
Luke 7:13 ESV
And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”
Jesus - SAW HER | SAW HER | No husband, no man | Life of Begging | or worse, offering her body | A life of Shame, Poverty | Grief..forver.
In those days | Religious law said if you touch something unclean, you are unclean, if you touch the dead, you are spiritually dead - Jesus said I am not doign waht LOOKS right, I am doing what IS right.
Luke 7:14 ESV
Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”
Luke 7:15 ESV
And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
Jesus saw the religious line that was drawn, and he decided to cross it. This is what Jesus does;
Religion draws lines to keep people out | Jesus crosses those lines to draw people in
These people were sinners, they where messes, but they bought their mess to jesus, and Jesus transformed their lives, and he is doing same thing today.
Jesus says COME AS YOU ARE.
God would rather you run to him with your mess, then run from him in shame
What happened to Jesus?
Let’s go back to our prophesy;
Surely Jesus was loved!? - Well quite the opposite - let’s go back to the prophesy
Isaiah 53:3 ESV
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
When Jesus came - The religious leaders did not like him | Not their kind of King | When rode into jeresulum on a Donkey, it was the outcasts cheering him on.
Isaiah 53:4 ESV
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
Isaiah 53:5 ESV
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Pierced - Crucifixion | Wasn’t invented
Isaiah 50:6 ESV
I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting.
He was whipped | Beard twisting was a roman custom | before there even was romans - This was prophesied, and it happened.
He had done no wrong - He was sinless, never sinned, and yet, destroyed. Why?
Why would such a thing happen?
Isaiah 53:11 ESV
Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.
Who? It’s you - It’s you he is talking about - Today, we celebrate the birth of a saviour, but not without recognising what he did on the cross.
He laid there, hanging on a cross - hard to breath - Being tortured - and he looked up to his father;
“Forgive them, they don’t know what they’re doing”
and then he said “it is finished”
Jesus came, not for the rightous, not people who have it all together - for the Sinners, for the people that don’t have it together and why?
Because God deeply, intimitadely, loves you - Your life, will be better with Jesus.
Jesus died - Blood poured out, and on the third day, they went to roll away the stone, an angel said “He is not here, he has RISEN”.
Someone said “IF you want to disprove Jesus, disprove the Resurrection” - It’s impossible, you will not be able to do it.
But Jesus is the only ONE that rose again from the grave and lived for ever.
Jesus is the only one that could of taken the weight of our sin
Jesus is the ONLY ONE that can save
Jesus is the ONLY ONE that could be born, into a world of MESS - to provide SALVATION for all of MANKIND.
TODAY, We celebrate that GOD climbed DOWN.
TODAY, we celebrate that we can take our MESSES and RUN straight into the arms of the father.
Today, we Declare, Jesus, our Lord and Saviour of our lives.
